South Australian Wineries Boot Up For Homelessness

WHAT: Touch Wine 2011

WHEN: Sunday 13 November, 9.30am to 5.30pm

WHERE: Adelaide Parklands (Park 17), Greenhill Rd

It’s time for wineries all across South Australia to dust off the touch footy boots and limber up for the battle of the year – Hutt Street Centre’s 2011 Touch Wine competition.

Being held on Sunday 13 November 2011 in the shady surrounds of Park 17 in Adelaide’s South Parklands (cnr of Greenhill & Beaumont Roads, Eastwood), Touch Wine will see hundreds gather to support their favorite winery team when they compete for the coveted Touch Wine Cup.

Hutt Street Centre’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the 2011 Touch Wine event will once again unite the South Australian community for a celebration of food, wine, sport and family fun to raise money to support Adelaide’s homeless.

“Touch Wine is such a unique event with money raised going towards meeting the most basic of human needs for people who are homeless,” says Hutt Street Centre CEO, Ian Cox. “The dignity of a shower and a private toilet, a proper sit down meal, access to laundry facilities, a safe place to store belongings and people who care are the much needed services we need your help in providing.”

The popular Adelaide charity event was founded by UK wine writer Matthew Jukes in Adelaide in 2005 and will see 40 teams made up of winery and corporate employees take to the field for some skillful and not so skillful touch football.

“With humble beginnings in Adelaide in 2005, Touch Wine has become a global event to raise awareness and generate funds to significantly reduce homelessness,” says Ian.

Now in its sixth year, the friendly competition will entertain onlookers who will support from the sidelines. The public can come along for free and enjoy a day out tasting some of South Australia’s finest wines and food on offer.

“A selection of wines will be available throughout the day, accompanied by a selection of gourmet food stalls for spectators to enjoy on the sidelines,” says Ian.

For those wishing to indulge in a package deal, The Vineyard VIP Marquee is the place to be.
