South Australia’s best Asian restaurant has been awarded

This accolade recognises the restaurant’s commitment to offering an authentic taste of Southeast Asian cuisine, blended seamlessly with Indonesian and Malaysian flavours.

Hut & Soul has recently been crowned the Best Asian Restaurant in South Australia at the 2023 Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence (R&CA).

This accolade recognises the restaurant’s commitment to offering an authentic taste of Southeast Asian cuisine, blended seamlessly with Indonesian and Malaysian flavours.

Established in 1998 as Adelaide’s first premier Indonesian restaurant, Hut & Soul expanded its culinary repertoire in 2016 to include Malaysian cuisine. This blend has created a diverse and rich menu, attracting food enthusiasts seeking an inexpensive yet genuine experience of Southeast Asian flavours.

The extensive menu at Hut & Soul is a testament to its culinary excellence. Among the ‘Small bites’, the Avocado Fries with Panko crust and sriracha truffle mayo stand out for their crunchy exterior and creamy, nutty flavour. The Wagyu Beef Martabak, a pan-fried delicate roti filled with spiced wagyu beef, egg, and shallot onion, served with curried dhal butter, is another crowd-pleaser.

In the ‘Wok tossed’ section, the Lemongrass Pepper Lamb and Kam Heong Squid & Long Bean are notable. The lamb is prepared with king oyster mushroom, garlic shoot, green peppercorn, wild ginger, lemongrass, and honey black pepper sauce, offering a perfect balance of flavors. The squid, wok-fried in ‘golden fragrant’ chilli sambal belacan with dried shrimp, is equally delightful.

The Curry offerings, including the Singapore Chilli Crab and Beef Rendang, showcase the depth of Asian flavors. The Chilli Crab features crispy soft-shell crab in a savory, sweet, and spicy egg chiffon sauce, while the Beef Rendang is a slow-cooked Angus beef dish rich in spices and herbs.

For those who favor BBQ, the Flaming Pork and Ikan Bakar provide a unique taste. The pork is crispy and marinated, served with cashew nut, roasted birdeye chilli, and toasted sesame. The Ikan Bakar, a grilled and smoked barramundi wrapped in banana leaf, comes with rica rica chilli sauce, pickled onion, and charred lemon.

The menu also offers a variety of salads, noodles, rice dishes, and desserts, each reflecting the intricate and diverse flavors of South East Asian cuisine. Notably, the Pandan Coconut Crepe and Kaya Croissant Pudding are popular choices for dessert lovers.

Complementing the food, Hut & Soul offers a selection of local SA wines from Longview, St Hallett, and Scarpantoni, along with Asian-inspired cocktails and Malaysian style tea or coffee. This comprehensive approach to dining has not only earned them the prestigious R&CA award but also a special place in the hearts of Adelaide’s food lovers.

Suresh Manickam, CEO of Restaurant & Catering (R&CA), praised Hut & Soul alongside other winners for their substantial contribution to the state’s dynamic hospitality sector. “South Australia is recognized internationally for their fine food and wine, and the winners are certainly a testament to this global reputation,” he said.
