Kebabs or yiros have been a part of Aussie culture for years. A favourite among foodies, the kebab is a staple for those lazy Summer days by the beach or a late-night feed before heading home after a night of bar hopping with friends—their flavour, versatility and efficiency make them a go-to choice for the whole family.
This year, South Australia’s Yianni’s Hellenic Yiros on Hindley stands at the top of the kebab game, having recently been crowned the best kebab in SA’s coveted delicious 100 list. Closely followed in this category were popular eateries Cheeky Greek in Henley Beach, coming in 2nd; Lawash Bakery in Thebarton, taking out 3rd place; Staazi & Co. in Adelaide at 4th; and completing the top five was The Ghan Kebab House in Kilburn.

Yianni’s Hellenic Yiros captures the classic charm of Greek street food cuisine. The shop, a fixture on Hindley Street, maintains an old-school ethos amidst the modern hustle, with their meats meticulously cooked over a charcoal fire, known for their succulence and flavour.
The yiros, which can feature chicken, lamb, pork or a combo of meats, are made with fresh vegetables wrapped in pita and can be filled with a variety of add-ons, including cheese, cooked onions, chips (in the yiros itself!), and condiments, including garlic, BBQ, Tobasco, peri peri, aioli and tomato sauce. Whilst Yianni’s might not be the cheapest option out of the top five, the quality, taste and service justify every cent.

Yianni’s menu extends beyond the kebab to include various delectable sides and alternative options. Their crunchy chips, fresh salads, and various meat packs cater to a wide range of preferences, and whether you’re in the mood for a classic yiros, an AB, a light salad, or a hearty meat pack, Yianni’s serves it up with quality and care.
Yianni’s victory in the delicious 100 list celebrates a quick and filling meal that has become a beloved part of Australia and the unwavering commitment to quality and tradition that Yianni’s has upheld over the years.

And sure, it may not be the perfect feed for a first date (think meat juices dripping down your arm and the bite of garlic sauce!), but the messiness of it all and getting your hands dirty whilst enjoying every bite is part of the experience.
