Some of the state’s most impactful changemakers have been recognised at this year’s FOCUS Awards and Gala Dinner, a powerful night dedicated to those working on the frontlines of domestic and family violence, child protection, homelessness and disability support.
Hosted by KWY Aboriginal Corporation, the Flame of Change Unifying Support (FOCUS) Awards have been celebrating those working in these vital sectors since 2015, honouring the individuals and organisations driving meaningful change in communities that need it most.
The awards recognise professional excellence, and the compassion, resilience and commitment required to support some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Among this year’s winners was Direct Experience Group, which took out the Outstanding Achievement by a Small Organisation award. Celebrated for its high-quality service and innovative approach, the organisation continues to make a strong impact despite its size.
In the large organisation category, Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) was awarded Outstanding Achievement, recognised for its ongoing work supporting Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
Individual excellence was also front and centre, with Amy Pumpa recognised for her passion and dedication to the child protection sector. Louise Kelly received the prestigious Rosie Batty Award, honouring her leadership and unwavering commitment to tackling domestic and family violence.
Health-led initiatives were also celebrated, with the Katherine West Health Board’s Family Support Services Team awarded Excellence in Child Protection Initiatives in Health, recognising innovative and compassionate approaches to supporting children and families.

Rounding out the night, Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Hughes was honoured with the Jo Shanahan Award for Outstanding Work in SAPOL, highlighting her advocacy, leadership and dedication within the South Australian Police Force.
The FOCUS Awards are a reminder of the critical work happening behind the scenes every day, often in challenging and complex environments. By recognising these efforts, the event continues to elevate the importance of community-led support and the people driving it forward.
As the sector continues to evolve, the FOCUS Awards remain a powerful platform to celebrate those creating positive change across Australia.
