South Australia’s Culinary Delights To Be Broadcast To Millions

South Australia’s world class food and wine will soon feature in two international television programs, Avec Eric and Jimmy’s Australian Food Adventure.

The television programs will be seen by millions of people worldwide. South Australian Tourism Commission Chief Executive Rodney Harrex said the broadcast provides a huge opportunity to showcase our State’s diverse food and wine offerings and cement South Australia’s reputation as a must-visit food destination to consumers in South Australia’s key international markets. “Jimmy and Eric experienced first-hand what South Australia is renowned for – a distinctive combination of gourmet flavours, quality local produce and creativity. The exposure is also an opportunity to tell the story of our passionate farmers, producers, chefs and winemakers that have built the South Australian food reputation into what it is today.” Avec Eric stars Eric Ripert, one of America’s most influential food figures and owner/ chef of Le Bernardin restaurant in New York City. Ripert, in season 3 of Avec Eric, heads on a personal gastronomic tour of in the 12- part series in which South Australia is featured in one of the six Australia episodes.

During the visit, Ripert enjoyed a range of South Australian experiences, including a food and wine safari on Kangaroo Island; exploration of the scenic and varying landscapes that yield unique produce and cuisine; as well as savouring world-renowed wines.

Eric Ripert said Australia is a thriving culinary destination, one that he’s wanted to explore for a long time. “From the rich history, culture, and vastly diverse landscapes, its home to one of the world’s most vibrant dining scenes and finest ingredients harvested from both land and sea.”

Jimmy Doherty – UK television personality, farmer and restaurant owner, discovers delicious regional produce at Adelaide Central Markets and unearths the spectacular beauty of the Flinders Ranges in his show, Jimmy’s Australian Food Adventure. A highlight was his visit to Kangaroo Island where he spotted kangaroos and koalas in the wild and received a lesson in Pavlova making with local chef Kate Sumner.

Jimmy said exploring the story of Australia’s farmers, food producers and chefs has been inspirational.

“Australian cuisine is a real fusion of many different cultures. It’s almost impossible now to say what a “typical” Australian dish is! But their appetite for innovation and experimentation is a lesson to us all.” Eric Ripert and Jimmy Doherty were part of a group of influential and respected international food and wine VIPs invited to Australia by the South Australian Tourism Commission and Tourism Australia as part of the Restaurant Australia campaign.

The Emmy® and James Beard-award winning series Avec Eric airs in the US on Yahoo! and the Cooking Channel from 28 February 2015, and will be distributed to more than 40 countries.

‘Jimmy’s Australian Food Adventure’ will launch on 1 March 2015, on Britain’s digital channel More4 and i9s is expected to reach 3.8 million British viewers.
