Next month, Adelaide will be the backdrop to South Australia’s biggest Multicultural Festival, which is set to take place on Sunday November 24th from midday to 6pm. Now an annual event, thanks to the support of the SA Government, the event will spotlight the state’s cultural diversity.
This vibrant festival is set to expand this year, reaching beyond Tarntanyangga/Victoria Square to Reconciliation Plaza. Festivel-goers can look forward to a brilliant array of multicultural music and dance performances. The event will also feature interactive demonstrations and unique intercultural activities. More than 80 community groups will be participating, representing nearly 60 cultures from around the globe.
With over 10,000 people expected to attend, you’ll be able to sample over 150 delicious dishes from around the globe. Immerse yourself in the sounds of traditional music, be captivated by vibrant cultural performances, and enjoy fun activities for all ages – all in the heart of the city. Best of all, this incredible event is completely free and open to everyone.
Minister Zoe Bettison MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs said, “The Multicultural Festival is the largest of its kind and provides an opportunity for us to strengthen intercultural understanding and to recognise cultural diversity as a positive influence in the community.” Reflecting on the successful gathering last year, she added, “I can’t wait to see this year’s bigger and better festival draw even more South Australians into the heart of the city to taste, experience, and celebrate the incredible diversity that will be on offer.”
She continued, “I encourage all South Australians to put the Multicultural Festival on your must-do list for November 2024 and join us to celebrate multiculturalism and harmony through dance, music, activities, arts, crafts, and food.”
The festival serves not only as a celebration but also a platform for building stronger connections and deepening cultural awareness within the community. Home to individuals from over 200 diverse backgrounds, South Australia’s community has been significantly enriched by generations of migrants. These communities have contributed their skills, experiences, and traditions to the local culture.
