South Australia’s Rising Sun Pictures wins top gong at Australian Export Awards

South Australian VFX powerhouse Rising Sun Pictures and tech innovator Fivecast have won big at the Australian Export Awards.

South Australian companies, Rising Sun Pictures and Fivecast, have achieved significant recognition at the Australian Export Awards, with accolades in major categories underscoring the state’s prowess in creative and technological sectors on a national scale. The event, which celebrated its 62nd anniversary, was held at Parliament House in Canberra.

Rising Sun Pictures, a veteran in visual effects, was awarded the prestigious title of Exporter of the Year, after securing the Creative Industries award. The Adelaide-based studio, renowned for its contributions to high-profile projects like the Harry Potter series, X-Men series, and HBO’s Game of Thrones, has continued to make its mark with recent work on major films such as Deadpool & Wolverine and the latest Indiana Jones movie.

Fivecast, known for its advanced technology solutions in open-source intelligence, clinched the title for the best exporter in Advanced Technologies. This follows a string of successes for Fivecast, which also includes winning the South Australian Exporter of the Year and the Advanced Technologies category in the South Australian Premier’s Business and Export Awards. The company, founded in 2017, operates globally with offices in the United States and the United Kingdom, besides its headquarters in South Australia.

Other South Australian firms were also in the spotlight, after securing their places at the national stage by being category winners at the state level. Among the notable mentions are The Yoghurt Shop in the Agribusiness, Food and Beverages category, SKDA Moto Creative for e-Commerce, and Flinders University for International Education and Training.

Minister for Trade and Investment, Joe Szakacs, commented on the achievement, noting, “To see a South Australian company taking out top gong at national export awards is testament to the innovation and perseverance that exists within our state’s corporate scene.” He added, “Congratulations to all the companies nominated who each won South Australian export awards for their truly remarkable work across a broad range of sectors.”

The Australian Export Awards not only highlight the entrepreneurial success within industries but also showcase the innovative contributions of Australian businesses to the global market. This recognition is supported by the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which indicate that South Australian companies exported goods worth $17.6 billion in the year to September 2024, marking a significant contribution to the economy.

Attendees at the awards included business leaders, industry experts, and government officials, who collectively celebrated the advancements and success of Australian exporters in penetrating and excelling in competitive international markets.
