South Australia’s Top Winery Getaways

If you’re looking for a winery adventure, where you can stay after you play, here’s a list of some of SA’s best!

Overnight trips, weekend getaways, and proper holidays to wine regions are on all of our to-do lists, particularly when South Australia’s wine region festivals are on. Across the Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, the Adelaide Hills, and regions like the Limestone Coast, there’s plenty of great accommodation options, but staying AT the winery has to take the cake, especially when it means you don’t need to organise transport after a vino or three.

While we could make a more exhaustive list, here’s 6 of our favourite accommodation options AT WINERIES in South Australia. But as always, book ahead, especially if you’re heading away during major events and festivals.

1. Longview Vineyard Suites

Located in the Adelaide Hills at the gorgeous Longview Vineyard, the winery’s accommodation comes in the form of 4-Star King Suites (featured image above). Featuring sleek new rooms with modern amenities, balconies and kitchenettes housed in contemporary architecture, the suites beautifully juxtapose with the majestic rural surrounds that have made their vineyard such a popular get-away destination. Your stay includes full breakfast provisions, flat screen TVs, en-suite bathrooms and a range of Longview wine to order.

2. Barristers Block Vigneron Villa

Located in Woodside in the Adelaide Hills, Barristers Block Vigneron Villa is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of Barrister Block and Platform 1 Heritage Farm Railway. Barristers Block Vigneron Villa’s premium accommodation is the perfect getaway, sleeping up to six people in the three large luxurious bedrooms, with two bathrooms. Relax on the veranda and enjoy their local breakfast provisions, borrow a Barristers Block bike and take a ride on the Amy Gillett Bikeway or simply enjoy a glass of wine by the fire.

3. Jacobs Creek Retreat

Jacobs Creek Retreat shares its grounds with neighbouring cellar door Moorooroo Park Vineyard, one of the smallest boutique Cellar Doors in the Barossa. At the retreat, they’re all about making sure that you have the time out that you thoroughly deserve. Unwind in the beauty of the Retreat gardens and escape to a world of peace and tranquility. Staff can organise in-room massages and spa treatments to enhance your relaxation. In the heart of the gardens is their solar heated infinity edge pool, which includes luxury spa bays, and overlooks the extensive lawns and vineyards. Simply relax and take some time for yourself.

4. Mount Lofty House

The Tower Suite bedroom

While it’s not traditionally considered a vineyard, Mount Lofty House offers up some of the most gorgeous accommodation in the Adelaide Hills, and is flanked by vineyards, where they grow the grapes for their own, Mount Lofty House wine. The two highest altitude vineyards in the State give you one more stunning location to enjoy, while you soak in the scenery in one of Adelaide’s most historic old homesteads.

Mount Lofty House offers a delightful selection of rooms and fit-outs: choose between the Original, Classic,Piccadilly Garden or Valley View Rooms. For more space and a ‘Lord of the Manor’ feel, pick one of their Suites or book one of the four Cottages which accomodate between 4-10 people.

5. Seppeltsfield Vineyard Cottage

Seppeltsfield Vineyard Cottage offers exclusive, self-contained luxury Barossa Valley accommodation for just one couple. Set in our Seize the Day premium Shiraz vineyard, the cottage is located an easy one hour drive from Adelaide on the Barossa’s historic palm-lined Seppeltsfield Road. The cottage is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, enjoy a relaxing getaway or spend some time exploring the Barossa. Everything you need is right at your fingertips.

Centrally located to some of the Barossa’s most premium food and wine experiences, guests can walk through vineyard to Hentley Farm and Fino@Seppeltsfield restaurants for lunch, or enjoy a complimentary transfer to Appellation, Hentley Farm or Fino for dinner. Their neighbour, Seppeltsfield Estate Winery, offers a globally recognised “Barossa Wine, Food and Art Paradise” incorporating JamFactory artisans and Vasse Virgin olive oil skincare and food products.

6. Hotel California Road

McLaren Vale’s Inkwell Wines opened Hotel California Road last Winter, and it’s still truly one of the most unique accommodation options we’ve seen in SA. Set in the vineyard, the micro-hotel has only three suites, each with its own private deck and floor-to-ceiling windows. Suites are decked out for the ultimate adult escape, with floating custom king-size beds, twin rain showers and vanities, a leather couch, a mini-bar stocked with Inkwell Wines, and decorated with original Aboriginal artwork, and vintage Persian rugs. The room is also packed with all the modern fittings – high end audio and video, a giant TV and USB charging.
