South-East motocross club unveils grand plans for dream track

The Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club have logged plans to build a brand new 1.9km, just a short drive from the town centre.

Are you a thrill-seeker looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure? Look no further because an exciting development is on the horizon that promises to bring south-east motocross enthusiasts an action-packed experience.

The Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club have logged plans to move their track and club to Burrungule, over 17km from the Mount Gambier town centre, mitigating any concerns about the roars coming from kids tearing up the track.

The proposed motocross development is all about creating an exhilarating motocross experience with top-notch facilities that cater to riders of all ages and skill levels. This includes a brand new 1.9km motorcross track, with natural terrain, making every lap an adventure.

Of course, if the kids aren’t ready for the bigger leagues, there is a proposed 400m kids track which will provide a safe and exciting environment for budding motocross stars.

A spacious clubhouse, consisting of two transportable buildings, a storeroom, an office, and a canteen facility, spanning 72-square-meters is also on the cards so riders have somewhere comfy to sit after a big day.

Riders and spectators will also be able to freshen up in the 36-square-meter amenities building, equipped with modern toilet and shower facilities.

Motocross events will primarily take place on weekends, with activities spanning two days. Participants will arrive on Sunday mornings, and the action will kick off at 9:30 am, wrapping up at 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoons. The events will be scheduled between late February and November to avoid the summer months and high bushfire risk season, with a maximum of 10 events per calendar year.

The track will also be used up to 10 times during the same period for training purposes, further enriching the motocross community’s skillset.

In January 2020, the Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club (MGJMC) committee made a bold decision to shift its affiliation from Motorcycling Australia to the newly formed Australian Motorcyclist Association (AMA). This move was driven by a commitment to keeping the sport financially accessible to club members and those eager to dive into the world of motorcycle racing.

Since this pivotal decision, MGJMC has experienced a remarkable resurgence in rider registrations and a significant boost in club membership.

In that time, the club have spent spent almost half a decade without a home after spending years riding at McNamara Park.

With a few more hurdles to cross, MGJMC dream of finding a long term home can be a reality.
