The always community-focused South Henley Newsagency & LPO has been awarded the National Lotteries and Newsagents Association (NLNA) Community Newsagent of the Year for 2024. Owners Avi Kashyap and Raj Pathania are exceptionally proud of the achievement.
On the win, Avi said, “We feel really excited because we’ve put a lot of effort into making the store great for our customers. When it’s rewarded it makes us really happy. We want to say thank you to our lovely community and customers.”
“It’s a really proud moment for us at South Henley Newsagency and Post Office,” Avi said.
Here are the three major winners:
NLNA South Australian Newsagent of the Year
Sarah Campbell – Campbell’s Newspower Marion
SA Lotteries Newsagent of the Year
Maple Tong – Bay Newsagency & Card Centre
NLNA Community Newsagent of the Year
Avi Kashyap & Raj Pathania – South Henley Newsagency & LPO
Avi says they’ve worked hard to contribute to the Henley community. “We support local people and businesses including the bowling club, Western Hospital charity, and Variety charity,” he said.
The store also stocks locally made products including handmade gift cards, honey wax candles, olive oil, and jars of honey. Even a local author has her book stocked in the store.
“We take feedback from all of our customers to make sure return customers get the best experience possible,” Avi said.

The newsagency underwent a full renovation three years ago, when the duo took over. “The store was very small and old fashioned, so we renovated it, complete with an extension.” Avi said.
He said there was no stationery supply business in the vicinity at the time, and they wanted to supply locals with the tools they needed to work from home during the bizarre 2021 period.
“We wanted to stock products that locals wouldn’t find a lot of in the South Henley area,” Avi said. “We took on customer feedback and started stocking products such as arts and crafts, business essentials, storage boxes, even party supplies.”
Avi noted that the business intends to be as accessible and inclusive as possible, aiming for spacious walkways and entryways. The store is pet friendly, where there is also ‘pet parking’ out the front where you can leave your furry loved ones. Plenty of regulars bring their pets to the store after a walk along the beach. It’s also family-focussed, running a colouring competition for the kids on easter with chocolate bunny prizes!
