Sparkke Offers Women 9.2% Discount On Beverages To Illustrate Gender Pay Gap

The 9.2% represents the gender pay gap between South Australian men and women in the workforce during the last financial year.

The Sparkke Change Beverage Company, a female-founded and led company, is giving women a 9.2% discount on International Women’s Day.

The 9.2% represents the gender pay gap between South Australian men and women in the workforce during the last financial year.

“We’re a company founded and led by women,” says Sparkke Co-Founder Kari Allen.

“We are fully committed to inclusivity across all genders and identities, and on International Women’s Day we welcome the opportunity to call out the gender pay gap, measured and recognised by the Australian Government, because it illustrates real economic disparity between men and women in the workforce.”

The 2019 report from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency on Australia’s Gender Pay Gap revealed Australia’s full-time female workforce took home on average 14% less earnings than men – or $241.50 less per week – last financial year.

Across Australia, the gender pay gap has actually increased between 2018 and 2019 in two states.

In Victoria, women earned approximately 9.6% less than men; in New South Wales, they earned almost 15% less; while Western Australia’s full-time female workforce received almost 22% less than their male counterparts.

“We also think it is really important to point out the gender discrimination barriers for LGBTQIA+ people, including for those who identify as non-binary,” says Allen.

“On a day when we are talking about economic gender bias, we are also calling for an annual metric that proactively monitors and addresses pay gaps based on gender, sexual identity, disability, race or ethnicity for all members of our community.”

In efforts to further support gender diversity in their own backyard, Sparkke will launch its brand- new program ‘The Kitchen Sisters’, designed to mentor women in an industry dominated by males.

‘The Kitchen Sisters’ is the first program under Sparkke’s ‘Future of Women in Food Mentorship Program’ and offers professional development opportunities to aspiring young female chefs via week-long restaurant exchanges.

The first exchange will take place with top chef Alanna Sapwell from Arc Dining in Brisbane and Emma McCaskill from fare, Sparkke at the Whitmore’s award- winning restaurant.

International Women’s Day will take place on Sunday, 8 March.

You can find Sparkke at 317 Morphett St, Adelaide SA 5000.
