After a hugely successful run in 2022, Karrawatta Wines’ is bringing back it’s Sparkling & Sushi series. As the weather begins to warm up (albeit slowly), sparkling wine and sushi sounds like the best way to spend a day or evening!
First up, it’s worthwhile noting that Karrawatta Wines, over its 175 year history, has developed a reputation for great small-batch wines, using minimal intervention and organically farmed techniques. In other words, they know their wine.
With vineyards, in the Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek, and McLaren Vale, planting and growing the best varieties suited to each region. Sophie’s Hill, Karrawatta’s Meadows’ location, will be hosting Sparkling & Sushi this year – the premium location for making cooler climate loving varieties.
Like sparkling wine, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Shiraz vines thrive in this cooler pocket of land, resulting in a delicious drop for the summer months.
Karrawatta Wines’ 2023 edition of Sparkling & Sushi coincides with the release of their new 2019 ‘Popsie’ Sparkling Blanc de Blancs, which was made using handpicked Chardonnay from their high altitude Meadows vineyard.
Upon arrival at the Karrawatta Sparkling & Sushi event, guests can enjoy a complimentary glass of the ‘Popsie’, as well as a selection of premium sashimi.
As for the sushi side of things, Yuki in the Hills will be doing the honours of catering the 4-day event. The Algate-based Japanese restaurant boasts a huge selection of rolls prepared fresh and with authenticity in mind. We can only imagine how fantastically these two brands will pair together…
Adding an extra element to the experience is the venue itself. Karrawatta is inviting visitors to enjoy the bubbles, sashimi and sushi in a picnic-style fashion, cosying up on a rug underneath Karrawatta’s shaded wine barrels. Alternatively, wine & sushi lovers can also make themselves at home in the comfort of Karrawatta’s cellar door.
For 2023, the winery has added two ‘Sunset Editions’ to the event, allowing for guests to enjoy a Saturday night sunset, amongst the hills and vines.
