Speculation grows over Gucci and other designer brands joining Louis Vuitton at Burnside Village

Louis Vuitton has officially opened the doors to its pop-up at Burnside Village, with whispers swirling about the arrival of more international designer brands.

Louis Vuitton has officially opened the doors to its pop-up at Burnside Village, with whispers swirling about the arrival of more international designer brands. With the centre set to welcome 80 new stores as part of its redevelopment, the buzz around announcements to come is undeniable.

For some time, Burnside Village has aimed to position itself as a designer hub, and its redevelopment is partly focused on creating a viable home for high-end brands. Although official details remain under wraps, it’s no secret this vision is well underway.

Social media chatter and comments from people close to the project suggest that other major international fashion houses, alongside Louis Vuitton, are set to join Burnside Village. While nothing has been confirmed yet, big brand names like Gucci, Prada, and Celine have been mentioned in recent conversations.

As Australia’s fifth-largest city, Adelaide has always had limited options when it comes to international designer brands. While high-end fashion is available for purchase at department stores like David Jones, the city itself has never had standalone boutiques for some of the most famous labels.

Currently, Gucci and Celine can be found within David Jones, but neither brand has ever had a dedicated store in SA. Prada, which has a significant presence in larger cities across Australia, has also yet to establish a physical store in the state, leaving South Aussies with few options beyond online shopping or trips to other cities.

Louis Vuitton briefly tested the waters in Adelaide with a pop-up store at Adelaide Central Plaza in October 2023. The two-month installation was exciting, but the lack of a permanent boutique in the city has left many wondering if Burnside Village could be the ideal location for a permanent store.

Adelaide does have a few designer stores, including Tiffany & Co. on North Terrace, and stores like Madam Virtue in Gawler Place which offers both new and secondhand luxury items. But these options remain limited when compared to other Australian cities like Melbourne and Sydney, which have many dedicated designer stores from the world’s most renowned designers.

Although Adelaide has always been known for its more relaxed, lowkey vibe, there’s no denying the demand for high-end fashion is growing.

As speculation continues about which other major brands could follow Louis Vuitton to Burnside Village, one thing is certain: the centre is already becoming the place to be for high-end fashion in Adelaide, and this could change the city’s retail landscape for good.
