It was beginning to feel like a very different Christmas for the Linden Park café Spill The Beans at the end of last year, when they made the bold decision to close up shop for an entire month starting on Christmas Eve. Done with the intention of carrying out a renovation and revamp of their friendly neighbourhood café, Spill The Beans is now ready to welcome back locals.
“The renovation was decided shortly after we took over the business from Maxine and Nick Ikonomopoulos and Gina Skipper in July 2024. From the beginning, our goal was to create a space where people genuinely feel comfortable spending time, while also improving the layout so our team can work more efficiently behind the scenes.” New owner Kanin Aungaphinan explains. “We wanted the cafe to flow better for both customers and staff, making it easier to move, serve, and connect without feeling cramped or disrupted. At the same time, it was important to future-proof the space so that day-to-day operations run smoothly and consistently.
“After working through several options, we found a contractor who understood our vision and could support us in bringing it to life after Christmas, then into early 2026. Moving forward with them allowed us to create a space that feels welcoming, functional, and truly reflective of the next chapter of Spill The Beans Café.”

The charming café provides a warm and welcoming ambience, with a menu that boasts very generous servings of excellent all-day meals and ingredients that are locally sourced. Highlighted items include the “Hashbrowns stack”, featuring bacon, avocado, tomato salsa, free-range eggs and gremolata breadcrumbs. The “Creamy Miso Mushroom Udon” and “Shaskshuka” are also prominent favourites, as well as the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte, which is a top-tier beloved choice.
“As an Asian owned cafe, we naturally gravitate toward a fusion of Western and Asian flavours without limiting ourselves to one cuisine. If something tastes good, we serve it. If it does not, we would not serve it to our friends, family, or customers.
“Our core dishes are still there, while some signature items may change with the seasons and local ingredients. We are always experimenting, so there is plenty more to come.”

The refurbished café design focuses on comfort, style, tranquillity and luminance. First and foremost, the main emphasis of Spill The Beans is an atmosphere of sociability.
“The design is centred around things we personally love and feel comfortable in. Wood, greenery, and white tones. We wanted the space to feel calm, bright, and welcoming, somewhere people can sit, relax, and truly spill the beans with someone they trust.”
Furry friends are still welcome too. “Dogs are still very much part of the cafe, and so are cats. We have many cat owning customers who bring their furry friends along, and our veranda continues to host early morning dog meet ups almost every day.”
