A new music festival is coming to Port Lincoln this Summer, set to celebrate South Australian music and bring the local community together after the town’s 60-year-long Tunarama Festival came to an end last year. Dubbed Spindrift Music Festival, this day of festivities is set to ignite the Port Lincoln Foreshore on Saturday the 11th of January.
As a vibrant celebration of South Australian music and culture, Spindrift Music Festival is offering a community-focused experience with live performances from South Australian artists, diverse food vendors and a commitment to fostering regional talent and inclusivity.
The scenic Port Lincoln Foreshore will be transformed into an open air, purpose-built event venue, with a big stage, grassy shore, shady pines and sparkling Boston Bay providing all the vibes as soon as you hit the main gate.
The 2025 lineup features jazz/funk quintet Brass Souls, rock band Burnt Orange, as well as Danger Fog, a 30+ member jam-band from Sheringa, and blues outfit Chickensalt. Local Pub Rockers Outnumbered will bring their classic rock grooves, and Little Fish Roots Reggae are set to offer a distinct rootsy vibe with their unique set of reggae, ska & dub music.
Finally, as Australia’s original Red Hot Chilli Peppers tribute show, The FUNKY MONKS will ignite the crowd with their high-energy and massive sound, recreating the Chilli Peppers’ vast catalogue from the early days to all the recent radio tracks.
The Spindrift Music Festival coordinators hope to deliver a destination event that offers a platform for emerging and established musicians, showcasing the incredible creativity of South Australia’s flourishing music scene. They also aim to attract new visitors to the Eyre Peninsula and invite them to experience the iconic region’s unique offerings.
There will be a variety of eats & sips at the festival with the organisers aiming for affordable prices and low wait times. Vegetarian and Gluten Free option will be available, and a large range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will also be on offer to consume within the festival grounds.
This all-ages, family-friendly event is designed to be safe, inclusive and accessible for everyone. Early bird tickets are now available until November 30th at 11:59PM, starting from $90 for adults and $45 for children aged 4 – 17 years. Children aged 3 or under get in FREE!
The festival has been organised by Charmaine Caston, a proud “Port Lincoln’ite” who owns Open Eyre Events in Port Lincoln, home of Shark Cage Diving among other fascinating experiences. Charmaine hopes to unite the local community after the unfortunate cancellation of the town’s famous Tunarama Festival in 2023, which attracted thousands of tourists each year to the Eyre Peninsula for 60 years.
The main attraction of the annual Tunarama fest was the famous tuna toss tradition, a tribute to the town’s fisherman that dates back to 1979. After a combination of COVID-19 related factors, funding difficulties, and sponsorship problems, the festival committee were forced to wrap up Tunarama last year.
However, all hope is not lost, because the local council agreed to acquire and preserve the festival’s branding, intellectual property, and specialised equipment, ensuring that the unique festivities of Tunarama aren’t replicated elsewhere. The council have not ruled out a future return of the festival in a different format.
In the meantime, the community-oriented Spindrift Music Festival in January 2025 offers locals and tourists alike an exciting day of music, art, food and drinks.
