Splash Adelaide Applications Now Open

splash_ad_500x500pxAttention entrepreneurs, grand thinkers, visionaries and anyone wanting to make their mark on Adelaide’s streets and laneways … your moment has arrived as applications for the 2013/14 round of Splash Adelaide open on Monday 8 July.

“We’ve had such a great reaction to the Splash Adelaide initiative over the past two rounds, and now we’re set for round three!” said Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood.

“Over the past two years, many great ideas have been tested and refined, and we’re expecting applicants to submit ideas and events that build on these ideas. We’re also encouraging people to look beyond the CBD to also include places and spaces in North Adelaide.

“This round there’s a special focus on events and activities that could draw people into the city in the early evening and that encourage city workers to stay in the city longer and enjoy the activities on offer,” he said.

Splash Adelaide so far, has been about activating laneways and public spaces that were previously underutilised, by creating points of interest that encourage people out of their offices to enjoy some of the unique experiences the city has to offer.

This time around, to help people think more broadly and make even more creative submissions Adelaide City Council is holding an information session for anyone interested in being part of Splash Adelaide Round 3.

The session will be held on Wednesday 10 July between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm at the David Spence Room on level 2 of the Town Hall and potential applicants can either RSVP to [email protected] or just drop in on the night.

Vibrant City Program Manager Penny McAuley said the information session will give people a chance to really hone their applications and think about the best ways of delivering their ideas.

“We’re hoping to give people a better understanding of what Council is looking for in submission, and to provide a great framework for people to put together their applications,” said Penny.

“In previous rounds we’ve seen the likes of Picnic Lane, the Fork on the Road events, pop up playgrounds and many other great and successful ideas. So come on people – make your mark!

“We want the community to own Splash, and work together to activate the streets and underutilised areas around the CBD and North Adelaide. We see the community as the main driver of Splash into the future, with Council lending a hand where it’s needed,” she said.

Splash Adelaide is a campaign by the Adelaide City Council that aims to bring our city streets and laneways to life both day and night. Round three applications close COB 2 August 2013.
