Spring Awakening: Local Directors Set To Wake Up Adelaide

SpringAwakeningCo-Directors and long time friends, Vince Fusco and Joshua Penley, are set to not only shake up, but wake up Adelaideʼs theatre scene and audiences.
Making their theatre debut, Adelaideʼs Gin & Vodka Productions, who are better known for their work in short film, are holding strong to their beliefs of fostering new and local talent.
Both Fusco and Penley are seasoned performers; Fusco, having toured Australia and Europe with Adelaide based Opera Company, Co-Opera, for the past three years and Penley, a Flinders Drama Centre graduate, who is no stranger to the stage with nearly twenty years of performance experience under his belt. “Weʼre thrilled to have found a cast of talented local performers. Spring Awakening is not only the perfect opportunity to foster and encourage this new talent, but also the chance to give Adelaide audiences something to get excited about and a chance to get youth interested in theatre again – Its themes are still extremely relevant and poignant to society today”, the pair has been noted as saying.
Spring Awakening The Musical tells the coming of age story of a group of teenagers in the late 19th century facing many of the same struggles as today’s youth including suicide, peer pressure, sexuality and learning who you are in the world.
Auditions were held two weeks ago and over 65 hopefuls auditioned for the 13 spots available, including video auditions from Melbourne and Perth. Surprisingly, 8 of the 13 amazing young cast have never had a feature role in an Adelaide show before.
With both the website and Facebook groups being bombarded with interest over the past week, since casting was announced, itʼs clear to see that Adelaideʼs audiences are ready to embrace this new production and face of theatre. Local business owners are also jumping onboard to support this local endeavor and maximize their own exposure.

Performance season is limited with 6 shows only: December 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 at The Little Theatre, Adelaide University @ 8pm.
