No matter how you spell it, whisky lovers can rejoice with the new release from this SA distillery.

The Angove family’s St Agnes Distillery has launched Camborne Single Malt Whisky – its first ever single malt collection – with the release of four single cask expressions.

Camborne Single Malt Whisky has been carefully crafted to reflect the history of the St Agnes Distillery and to honour the founder of the business – Dr William Thomas Angove.

In 1886, leaving his home of Camborne, Cornwall, Dr Angove set off for the distant shores of South Australia with determination and dreams of adventure. From humble beginnings he created a reputation for ingenuity and excellence.

Created by the fifth generation of Australia’s oldest distilling family, Camborne Single Malt Whisky represents over one hundred years of experience in craftsmanship and is named to honour the birthplace of the founder of the Angove winemaking and distillation businesses.

Camborne Single Malt is distilled through the original Copper Pot Stills installed at the St Agnes Distillery in 1911. Made by HJ Jennings of Adelaide, these copper pot stills are a true piece of South Australian distilling heritage and history. Their structure, shape and history help define a complex and pure whisky spirit.

Oak maturation is the most important piece of the whisky making puzzle, contributing colour, flavour, texture and complexity.

The team at Angove couldn’t be more excited to debut its range of whiskies, highlighting the fact that the range focused on quality not quantity.

“We are thrilled to release these unique single malt whiskies; they have been made with extreme care and craft in miniscule quantities. Our aim is to make a spirit of individual character and uncompromising quality. With over 100 years of distillation experience we have a clear purpose, to create Australian spirits of exceptional world standard with a unique Australian expression.

Our head distiller, Ben Horley, and the team at the distillery have used all their experience in crafting our single batch whiskies, each having unique character underpinned by our house style which is classically South Australian – rich, full, stylish, smooth, and long,” Richard Angove said.

Since 1886, the Angove wine and distillation businesses have been built on making brandy, sherry, grand and rare fortified and premium wines, ensuring the family has access to an amazing range of super premium second fill casks.

This heritage has resulted in an oak reserve being close to unrivalled across Australia.

Something to note about the St Agnes Distillery is that it is Australia’s oldest, continuously run, family owned and operated distilleries. With over a century of experience exploring the fine art and craft of distillation we demand uncompromising quality while nurturing the individual character of our spirits.

The St Agnes Distillery has a distinguished history of crafting award winning spirits with the St Agnes XO brandies being awarded best brandy in the world on three occasions, most recently winning the Trophy for Best Distiller at the 2021 Tasting Australia Spirit awards.

Visitors are welcome to tour the St Agnes distillery and soak in over a century of distilling in Renmark 7 days a week with bookings essential on 08 85803148.

The limited single cask releases consist of a Tawny Cask, Sherry Cask, XO Brandy Cask and Red Wine Cask.

Recommended retail price for Camborne Whisky is $275 per 700mL bottle.
