Stadium Stomp Staircase Challenge Hits Adelaide Oval In July

Run up stairs, and down them again, and back up… why do gyms have a stair machine again when there’s events like Stadium Stomp on?

For those who’ve watched Rocky, you’ll remember his iconic staircase ascension to conclude the ultimate training montage as Sylvester Stallone’s motionless expression somehow manages to convey a deep emotive sense of achievement that belies his talent as an actor. Ever since, the stair climb has been the Hollywood whenever they want to convey that true sense of achievement. Getting to the top, it is as if the compulsion to turn around with your arms raised and proclaim your victory is ingrained within us. How else are people supposed to notice you’re actually exercising in your fitness-wear instead of just popping out for a skim latte anyway?

Well, this run has stairs. A lot of them. And that means a lot of satisfaction to be had. Repetitive satisfaction in fact as you run up and down, over and over again across a course that will take you virtually all though the Adelaide Oval and it’s wonderfully steep grandstand redevelopments. You can try sprinting if you like, but this is better treated as a test of endurance as the ultimate cement pounding, stair stomping challenge.

Stadium Stomp is being held at Adelaide Oval on Sunday 3 July. With music blaring around the Oval like a wicket has fallen at a 20/20 match, you can challenge yourself to a specially tailored course to

Each stadium is unique and so the course length and number of stairs does vary between events. What we can say is that you’ll be climbing thousands of stairs regardless of the event you choose. Registrations are now open to both teams and individuals and seeing as you’re going to the trouble, why not raise some money for charity if you’re going to torture yourself.

That said, you can take a rest at any one of the thousands of seats available and there are a number of rehydration stations scattered throughout the course. Plus toilets. You don’t know how important that is unless you’ve got halfway through the City To Bay and are stuck on Anzac Highway with limited options…

This event attracts participants of all types, ranging from social groups and families through to the elite athletes. 70% of our participants are female between the ages of 25-45yrs, with the most common motivation being the fitness challenge, or to try something new. So don’t be bashful. We know you bought those spandex shorts for a reason. And not just for the stair climbing machine at the Gym. This event kind of makes that particular machine seem redundant, really…

Registrations for Adelaide are open now via the Stadium Stomp website, which also has all the information you could hope to discover about the event. Ever made it to the top of the Southern Stand? No excuses now. The view is legitimately breathtaking!
