Starlight Day Volunteer Crisis

Starlight Day is facing a volunteering CRISIS as it is falling drastically short in reaching volunteer numbers this year.

Starlight MUST HAVE 7,000 volunteers in shopping centres, central business districts, and train stations throughout Australia, to help raise the $2.2 Million required to support seriously ill children around the country.

To date, Starlight has only reached 60% of the required volunteer numbers needed. Without immediate support from the community, Starlight will not be able to raise the much needed funds.

Friday the 29th of April is the deadline for volunteer registrations and Starlight desperately needs your support to volunteer at various locations across the country.

Volunteers are asked to visit www.starlightday.org.au or call 1300 727 827 to find out locations where they can register today.

CEO of the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Louise Baxter said “People usually confirm their volunteer support for Starlight Day in April and we are way behind the numbers we need for a successful Starlight Day because of this year’s unusual timing of School holidays & Easter. If we don’t lift our volunteer numbers and fill another 3,000 volunteers shifts in the next week we will be facing a shortfall of up to ½ million dollars in funds for Starlight Day. The number of volunteers directly impacts the funds we will raise so we must fill these volunteers shifts.”

“Starlight is different to a lot of charities as we actually deliver programs to support the seriously ill children and their families 7 days a week – any revenue shortfall immediately impacts our ability to deliver these programs and transform the hospital experience from one of pain & stress to one where they are distracted from their illness and treatment and can play, laugh and be a child again. Starlight Day volunteers are crucial in helping us continue to deliver our Starlight programs”

“When you consider that a child is admitted to hospital every minute of every day in Australia that’s an enormous need for Starlight programs and that’s why we need to fill 7,000 volunteer shifts for Starlight Day”

“Australia has a wonderful culture of volunteering but people generally don’t confirm until closer to the day – combine this with the timing of school and Easter holidays this year and Starlight has a big volunteer hole to fill for Starlight Day right now.

Funds raised from merchandise sales and donations will ensure Starlight can continue vital In-Hospital programs such as Captain Starlight, the Starlight Express Room, Starlight TV and Starlight Fun Centres, which are in almost every major paediatric hospital across Australia.

The support from the Australian public this Starlight Day will help Starlight reach these seriously ill children and their families when they need it most.

Together we can brighten their lives!
