Stars come together for SA volunteers

Ali says a highlight will be to see Ricki-Lee and Rachael Leachcar performing at the annual Volunteer Parade on 16 May in Victoria Square.

Media personality Ali Clarke has been appointed the inaugural Ambassador of Volunteering SA&NT. She volunteers with her children’s schools and has previously volunteered with Netball SA, the SANFL and in the disability sector.

“Since moving to South Australia over 20 years ago, I have seen first-hand the positive impact volunteers have in our great and diverse community, and on the lives of so many people,” said Ali.

“Giving back to the community is something very close to my heart, and that of my family. I am very
excited to be announced as Volunteering SA&NT’s inaugural Ambassador.”

Over her voluntary three-year term, Ali will be striving to raise the visibility, profile and reach of volunteers, with a particular focus on the priority cohorts of First Nations people, newly arrived migrants, and people with a disability.

“This year, a particular highlight for me will be the annual Volunteer Parade and Celebration on 16
May
in the heart of Adelaide,” said Ali.

Joining the annual National Volunteer Week festivities is one of Australia’s most loved performers Ricki-Lee who will join local star, Rachael Leahcar at a free lunch-time concert in Victoria Square.

Other volunteer supporters on the day will be the Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas and the Governor of South Australia, and Patron of Volunteering SA&NT, Frances Adamson.

A gourmet BBQ is also on offer following the 11am Parade which starts at the Torrens Parade Ground.

Hamilton Calder, CEO Volunteering SA&NT said that there have been more than 750 volunteers registered to date, with the hope to double that number – to make it the biggest and best celebration yet.

“Although we thank our volunteers each and every day of the year, we want to shout it from the rooftops. We want to celebrate the dedicated individuals who make such a difference in the community, and to the people they support,” said Mr Calder.

For those that can’t make the Parade, particularly those wonderful volunteers in the regions, the online campaign #ColourYourCommunityRed is another way to say thank you.
