Adelaide City Council is encouraging people to plan ahead as traffic restrictions and road closures for the Adelaide Clipsal 500 continue, with full road closures coming into force from the 23 February until the 6 March and delays expected.
The Adelaide Clipsal 500 attracts many visitors – both local and from interstate – into the city, and combined with the Adelaide Fringe and Festival, brings recognition and great economic benefits to the CBD.
City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese said that the best thing people can do to avoid being caught in traffic is to choose an alternative mode of transport, or come in and leave earlier or later.
“It’s Clipsal time and that means traffic restrictions on the roads leading into the city. Don’t get caught in the traffic – start preparing your travel plan now,” Martin said.
“Consider leaving your car at home if you can. If you’ve been thinking about riding your bike to work, now could be a good time to give it a try.
“Try out one of the many greenways, bikeways or River Torrens linear trail that are located around Adelaide providing safe and connected bike routes into the city.
“If you use or have access to public transport, while it may take longer than usual, why not use the time to relax and catch up on a good book or listen to music? Or try catching your bus to the edge of the city and walking the rest of the way.
“Chat to your colleagues – maybe there’s someone who lives near you and is willing to car pool.
“The city is buzzing with excitement so it’s a great opportunity to stay in town after work and enjoy a bite to eat or catch a Fringe show and avoid peak hour.”
Adelaide City Council’s Smart Move website will be updated regularly with the traffic restrictions and road closures as they roll out. During the Clipsal road closures, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and Council work collaboratively to monitor traffic movements, and adjust the traffic lights and traffic management as required. In addition, a number of peak period parking restrictions are put in place on the eastern side of the city to assist with improving traffic flow.
