State Control Centre Health to double in size and staff

South Australian officials are anticipating long term pandemic management plans to be necessary with the State Control Centre Health undergoing a major expansion, doubling in size and staff.

Australian states are announcing long term, operational plans in pandemic management, with Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews declaring that their state of emergency has been extended for a further 12 months.

South Australian Health officials are also anticipating the need for similar plans, with the State Control Centre Health undergoing a major expansion, doubling in size and staff.

“This is the nerve centre of all operations of the SA response to this pandemic,” SA Premier, Steven Marshall says.

The team is looking to recruit another 40 personnel in full time roles to join the existing 40.

The Centre coordinates the medi-hotels, cluster management, logistical support for nursing and paramedic teams interstate, amongst many other support services.

Health partners spanning Government and non-Government, educational services, human service, and organisations with strong expertise in the emergency department such as the CFS, SA Police and more recently, the ADF.

State Control Centre Health Commander Paul McGowen says that there is a need for a sustainable workforce, in order to plan for the next two years.

“We are working 15 hours a day, seven days a week. If we need to go 24/7 this gives us the opportunity,” Mr McGowen says.

The purpose built floor is said to be customisable, which will provide the team with a more sustainable location and better infrastructure.

On the topics of impending international student arrivals, Mrr McGowen says that this cohort will be managed in the same way as other international arrivals.

Flights carrying these students will all be capped.
