State Theatre Production of Romeo and Juliet

RomeoandJulietBy William Shakespeare, Adapted By Nicki Bloom and Geordie Brookman.

In 2010 Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy will be replayed on the Dunstan Playhouse stage. The classic story based on forbidden love has been a big part of the theatre since it was first performed in 1595 and ever since has connected with millions around the world.

“They don’t come much bigger than Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare’s examination of love, lust and obsession is timeless and a wonderful challenge for any director,” said Director Geordie Brookman.

“I am particularly excited by the opportunity to re-imagine the piece somewhat: Shakespeare’s writing is so strong that it stands up wonderfully to experimentation.”

“Edward Hall’s Propeller Company in the UK has become famous for lightning fast, re-imagined Shakespeare and this style will be our jumping off point.”

Romeo and Juliet’s love and stubborn families inspire us to think why and how we love and how far we will really go to get what we want. Featuring 21 characters in total this masterpiece shows off the impeccable talent of William Shakespeare.
