Stay safer online with a free parent safety webinars this February

Several free online safety parent webinars are being launched by the Australian government in association with ‘Safer Internet Day’, starting this Tuesday.

8th of February marks ‘Safer Internet Day’, encouraging awareness in establishing online safety for families, schools, organisations and governments.

With today’s youth spending a large amount of their time online, teaching internet safety has never been more prevalent. To assist with this, several free online safety parent webinar’s are being launched by the Australian government in association with ‘Safer Internet Day’.

In accordance with growing up in the digital age, risks of online sexual abuse and cyber security safety are of major concern to parents and carers.

National research shows youth spend an average of 18 hours a week online in social networking, entertainment and educational activities. Experts are advising parental involvement in the safe use of technology to be from a child’s first exposure to an online experience.

With this month’s webinars being directed towards parents and carers of young people between the ages of 5 to 12 years, topics ranging from cyber-bullying through to awareness of cyber security will be covered.

The webinars will provide a comprehensive guide to managing online risks, like bullying, abuse and how to avoid harmful content. This guide will extend to parents understanding the risks involved in online usage and further develop strategies to protect their household.

Dates of Online Safety Parent Webinars will be:

Tuesday 8 February 12.30 to 1.30 pm

Thursday 10 February 12.30 to 1.30 pm

Wednesday 23 February 7.30 to 8.30 pm
