Steve Moneghetti racing in Adelaide this Weekend

This weekend 1000 entrants will run with Steve Moneghetti at The Adelaide Running Festival – the biggest turnout yet!

young athletic man runingThis Sunday, 24th August, the Adelaide Running Festival takes place in the City of Adelaide.

Numbers are up with over 15 countries and every state of Australia represented.

1000 entrants will run with Steve Moneghetti in the half marathon while over 500 will attempt the full marathon course. Celebrating the sport, science, art, conservation and wine that is South Australia the course was designed to wind past icons representing all of these. Finally finishing for the first time by running over the new footbridge to the Telstra Plaza at Adelaide Oval.

New local product, Vita Chiahh have put their name to the Vita Chiahh 10km event which features the picturesque River Torrens and new North Terrace precinct. As usual, Adelaide fun runners will be out in force for this race also finishing at the Adelaide Oval Telstra Plaza.

The big screens of the Adelaide Oval will capture the faces of runners crossing the line throughout the morning. Latino band, food carts, random draw prize and lots of colour and festivities will create an atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Recent successes of South Australian runners, including Jess Trengove at Glasgow and Casey Wood, winner of the 2014 City to Surf has meant interest in running is high in SA.

 

Race distances      Marathon (42.195km), half marathon (21.1km), 10km

Start times              Marathon – 7:00am half marathon & 10km – 7:50am

Charity partner    The official charity of the Adelaide Running Festival is Muscular Dystrophy SA. Fundraisers can also have the chance to win airfares, three nights twin share accommodation and guaranteed entry to the London valued at over $4000. Five dollars from each entry will also go towards MDSA.

The event is a member of the Association of International Marathons and all distances will be certified accurate to international standards (IAAF). It is organised by the South Australian Road Runners Club, a not for profit organisation to promote and encourage running and walking as a recreational activity among all South Australians.
