Popular Glenelg spot The Local Greek has released a new line of deliciously authentic Greek meals to alleviate the stresses on time-poor parents, balancing work and family life.
Owner Niki Tsagklis and husband Vasili have been bringing their traditional Hellenic street food to Glenelg since late 2020, with customer’s returning for the incredible flavours and dishes that bring a real taste of Greece to Adelaide.
Inspired by her Mother’s bustling kitchen growing up, Yiayia’s kitchen is a new venture for Niki and the team at The Local Greek, providing healthy, traditional home-cooked meals pre-prepared for customers to collect and pop in the oven at home, perfect for when preparing a big family meal is the last thing on your mind after a hectic work day.
There are a number of traditional Greek favourites on the menu including Tiropita, a cheese pie layered with hand-made flaky filo pastry, and Pastitsio, a baked pasta dish with ground beef and béchamel sauce, lovingly described by Niki as “like a big, warm hug from Yiayia”.
Through the online order system, customers can collect a family-sized portion of Pastitsio, which serves 10, or traditional Greek pies Spanakopita or Tiropita, which serve 12 full-sized portions each. Each dish comes lovingly prepared and packaged in a foil tray ready for the oven, saving time on preparing and washing up, without the guilt of ordering a typical takeaway.
Although The Local Greek’s focus is on traditional Greek dishes, supporting local producers is an important aspect of the business to owner Niki, who strives to use as many fresh South Australian ingredients as possible in her menu.
