Strikers Head West To Take On Scorchers

The Adelaide Strikers play their second match of the season away to the Perth Scorchers after last night’s 10-run loss to the Brisbane Heat.

While the match at Adelaide Oval broke the record for the biggest ever pre-Christmas BBL crowd with 38,011, it also had the largest TV audience of any regular season match, with 1.36 million watching at home (peaking at 1.7 million).

The Strikers’ best ever partnership between Ben Dunk and Jake Weatherald of 133 was not enough in response to the Heat’s mammoth 5/206.

Despite not taking a wicket, spinner Liam O’Connor was impressive on debut (0/28 from four overs) and returns home to face a number of his state teammates in Perth.

The Scorchers, led by captain Adam Voges, will open their BBL|06 campaign in what promises to be an exciting contest at the WACA (#TheFurnace).

Fast bowler Billy Stanlake is included in the squad in place of Wes Agar after taking 2/28 the last time the sides met.
