Strikers lock in squad update for New Year’s Eve rematch against Heat

The Adelaide Strikers have named their 14-man squad for the New Year’s Eve BBL rematch against the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval, with Alex Ross the only addition.

The Adelaide Strikers have confirmed a single change to their 14-man squad ahead of their New Year’s Eve clash with the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval, with middle-order batter Alex Ross returning to the line-up.

Ross is the only addition to the squad as the Strikers look to square the ledger after a narrow seven-run loss to the Heat at the Gabba last weekend. That match saw Adelaide push Brisbane all the way in a tense finish, with strong performances across the park suggesting the rematch could be just as tight under lights on New Year’s Eve.

Skipper Matt Short was the standout in Brisbane, leading from the front with an outstanding all-round display. He claimed 2/13 from his three overs before backing it up with a blistering 63 from 39 balls, registering his second consecutive half-century of the campaign. Young talents Jerrssis Wadia and Harry Manenti also made their mark, contributing quickfire knocks of 34 and 24 respectively to keep the chase alive until the final overs.

With Ross returning and the rest of the squad unchanged, the Strikers will be banking on continuity, confidence and home-ground advantage as they chase a crucial result in front of an Adelaide Oval crowd primed for a New Year’s Eve spectacle.

Squad (14):
Matt Short (c), Hassan Ali, Mackenzie Harvey, Chris Lynn, Harry Manenti, Harry Nielsen, Jamie Overton, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott, Henry Thornton, Jerrssis Wadia, Luke Wood
