Are you a lover of reformer Pilates, but looking for something more? Or perhaps you’re into your high-intensity training, and searching for something not-so-intense on your joints? Well, let us introduce you to STRONG Pilates at Henley Beach.
STRONG Pilates is the rapidly expanding phenomenon that combines the fundamental principles of reformer Pilates and Rowing, using what is called a ‘Rowformer’ machine. The Pilates-inspired, cardio-infused classes give that high-intensity, low-impact offering gym-goers have been crying out for – and STRONG is doing you one better by introducing a brand new class called ‘Climb’.
“Climb is an endurance-based class and is set to be the new toughest class of the week!”, said Jess.
“Strong Climb is all about building intensity as you go, we start this class with a slower, longer row and at the end of class we hit the high-intensity efforts to finish strong. As for the Pilates, it’s super slow, it’s all about time under tension, isolated movements and feeling the burn.”
The Henley Beach studio, since their opening in November last year, has curated a comprehensive weekly schedule of full-body, lower body, upper body, and Pilates-only workouts (for those not into their cardio).
The studio also has instructor-assist movement screen technology that caters to participants who are new to Pilates or who may need a little more help. In other words, anyone from any fitness level can try out this new Pilates/cardio concept.
Co-founders Michael Ramsey and Mark Armstrong first came across the innovative machine on Instagram – a first-of-its-kind piece of equipment, revolutionising the fitness industry in an American program called ‘Hardtfit’. The duo travelled to Newport Beach, California, to try it out – eventually acquiring the rights to use the patented machine in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
“STRONG Pilates is the first of its kind here in Adelaide. Curated for those looking for more out of their Pilates classes, or those worn down from years of high-impact training,” said Jess.
“Our classes are part resistance, part rower. Participants should expect high-intensity training using the rower, removing plyometrics and making for a low-impact, sweaty-filled solution to training sustainably.
“We work time-under-tension on the ‘strength side’. which is the reformer end of the machine, this means movements are mostly performed slowly and with control to build muscle tension and focus on good form.”
While these classes might be the hardest things you do all week, at least you can sweat in a cracking location. The industrial-style warehouse studio is situated nearby Henley Beach’s popular dining strip, where your next coffee will be waiting for you when you recover.
The studio also features a few additional bonuses, such as phone chargers in every locker, post-workout cold towels soaked in Eucalyptus oil, a dedicated mobility area for your pre and post workout needs, as well as a child minding offering for parents getting back to the gym grind.
If this sounds like something you could get into, right now is the perfect time. STRONG Pilates is about to begin its TOUGH LOVE four-week studio challenge, commencing from 27 June 2022. For more information on how to get started, contact the studio directly (click here).
