Lights, camera, action! A local South Aussie house build, and business, are getting ready for their TV debut on the uber-popular Grand Designs Australia.
Local window installation business, KR Installations is set to appear on the Lifestyle series’ next season when it premieres, thanks to their work on a stunning Carrickalinga project which will be featured on the show.
Husband and wife duo Kerryn and Robbi from KR Installations, were brought on board to help build SA couple, Mick Smith and Catherine Turnbull their dream home in Carrickalinga.
Situated atop a cliff overlooking the stunning Kangaroo Island coast, the couple approached KR Installations for the Grand Designs project to help provide a solution for the build’s incredibly complex location.
“Because of its position, the house has been designed to have a view from just about every angle,” says Kerryn, co-owner of KR Installations.
“This required a lot of double glazing and very sturdy frames. Catherine and Mick’s love of entertaining also meant that there are a lot of internal sliding doors so they can open up areas as needed.”
Just take a peek of the amazing progress below, how great are those views?! It’s no wonder Mick and Catherine want their dream home to feature so many windows.
While the Carrickalinga project is quite complex, KR Installations haven’t always been involved with this style of build. When Kerryn and Robbi started their window installation business in their backyard back in 2011, they just did standard installations for a number of window companies.
As time progressed however, and they were requested for more complicated jobs, they branched out and began creating their own products.
“We have grown our knowledge and expertise and have an enviable reputation for our high-end products and our ability to provide very custom designs,” says Kerryn, co-owner of KR Installations.
Frustrated over the limited ability of Australian and NZ systems, KR Installations began exploring what else was available to them on the market.
“From what we had seen on our favourite TV show Grand Designs, Australia was way behind the European market.”
On the lookout for a chicer solution with better thermal efficiency and waterproofness, Kerryn and Robbi discovered Schuco, a German-based company that is the leading supplier for high-quality window and door systems.
Becoming an official Schuco partner in 2014, KR Installations have been fabricating and installing a large variety of Schuco products right here in Adelaide, providing architecturally customised windows and doors across SA.
Be sure to check out the finished product when the next season of Grand Designs Australia airs on the Lifestyle channel in the near future.
