Frontier Touring and Roundhouse Entertainment are thrilled to announce the return of acclaimed Sugar Man, RODRIGUEZ, to Australia next February.

The legendary singer-songwriter will bring his iconic blend of folk and psychedelic rock to our shores for a run of headline shows, including a day on the green at Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley on Saturday February 23, our 18th show at this stunning winery.

“Australian audiences hold a very special place in my heart, so I can’t wait to return down under in 2019.” – Rodriguez

Joining RODRIGUEZ for the a day on the green shows will be XAVIER RUDD, BUSBY MAROU, PIERCE BROTHERS and introducing ALICE SKYE.

Tickets go on sale 10.00am on Tuesday August 7 from Ticketmaster.

Rodriguez has had strong ties to Australia and New Zealand ever since his music gained airplay locally in the mid-1970s, long before the rest of the world caught onto his talent thanks to the Oscar-winning film Searching For Sugar Man. He first toured Australia and New Zealand in the late 1970s and later returned to Australia in 2014, then again in 2016 for a run of 14 concerts selling out shows around the country, and also released the classic live album, Rodriguez Rocks – Live In Australia (out now through Inertia).

The Searching For Sugar Man documentary follows Rodriguez’s celebrated history that began in the bars and clubs around Detroit in the 1960s. Drawing inspiration from the city’s post-industrial urban decay, Rodriguez recorded and released the albums Cold Fact (1969) and Coming From Reality (1971), which produced hit songs Sugar Man, I Wonder and Cause. These releases went largely unnoticed in the US, despite Cold Fact being certified five-times platinum in Australia and Coming From Reality peaking at number 24 on the ARIA album chart.

Thanks to bootleg recordings and word of mouth, Cold Fact found its way to South Africa where its counter-culture lyrics resonated with the country’s politically alienated youth. Without a telephone, and working factory and construction jobs to support his family, Rodriguez remained oblivious to the fact that he was bigger than Elvis in South Africa.

Nearly five decades after the release of his debut, Rodriguez’s incredible vocal and musical skill is finally being heard by audiences around the world, including festival audiences at Glastonbury and Coachella.

Acclaimed Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist XAVIER RUDD has earned accolades of every kind across the world since his debut in 2002 with To Let. With ARIA nominations, gold and platinum records and a legion of devoted fans all over the globe, he continues to surpass expectation and produce his finest work to date with the release of his ninth studio album, Storm Boy– his sixth album in a row to debut in the Top 10. This unique multi-instrumentalist has connected with people from all cultures and walks of life during his 15 years of touring all over the globe. A prolific recording artist with a deep connection to the world around him, his timeless, philosophical lyrics and masterful sculpting of melody makes him a true virtuoso of his craft.

BUSBY MAROU are Rockhampton duo Thomas Busby and Jeremy Marou. Their debut self-titled album was certified gold in Australia in 2014, while their follow-up album Farewell Fitzroy debuted at number five on the album chart. Last year’s Postcards From The Shell House was their first ARIA number one album. Their meaningful lyrics, melodic guitar riffs and delightful harmonies have seen them win over fans and critics alike. Fast approaching 1000 live performance across Australia, they have supported some of the biggest names in music including Elton John, Dolly Parton, k.d. lang, James Blunt and The Beach Boys.

PIERCE BROTHERS have taken their music from busking on the streets of Melbourne to the world. Their irresistible energy and world-class live shows have generated a word-of-mouth buzz not seen for some time. Twin brothers Jack and Pat Pierce, the charismatic multi-instrumentalists, have been shaking dance floors and selling out rooms across Australia as well as the UK, Europe, Canada and US. Their latest EP, The Records Were Ours, debuted at number 9 on the ARIA chart after topping iTunes charts across the globe. Recently the brothers embarked on an extensive national and international tour supporting Tash Sultana.

Singer. Songwriter. Wergaia Woman. Universal Little Sister. 2018’s triple j Unearthed NIMA winner and Feature Artist ALICE SKYE will also be on stage at a day on the green. Alice’s songs sparkle with a sensitivity and maturity well beyond her 22 years. Her stripped-back piano melodies and deeply intimate and reflective songwriting first caught national attention in 2015 through her debut single You Are The Mountains. She won the Alukura Songwriting Competition, has supported Benny Walker, Archie Roach and Colin Hay and was hailed by triple j as “one of the five new Indigenous artists you need to hear”. Alice won the inaugural International Women’s Day First Peoples Emerging Artist Award in March and released her captivating debut album Friends With Feelings in April, reaching number one on the AMRAP AirIt metro and regional charts. ALICE SKYE is a name set to soar in Australian music.
