Summer Of Cider

There's nothing better than kicking back by the pool or at the beach in Summer with a cider. It's one of the only alcoholic drinks that is popular with both men and women equally. Cider is fast becoming an integral part of the Australia Summer.

Cider is currently the fastest growing alcoholic beverage in Australia, growing by 43% volume in the past 12 months and is the new beverage of choice among 18 to 24-year-olds who drink alcohol.

So we've taken the hard work out of deciding between all the new ciders on the market and reviewed them for you below.
It was a hard job, but someone had to do it.

Strongbow Summer Fruits
Price: $14.99 for a four-pack.

Alcohol Content: The ABV is 4.0 per cent or 1.0 standard drink in each 330ml bottle.

The three delicious new Strongbow flavours are Apple Cider with Strawberry and Kiwi, Pear Cider with Raspberry and Strawberry, and Apple Cider with Mango and Passionfruit. Clearly taking a leaf out of the Rekorderlig book, they offer fruity sweet ciders in brightly coloured bottles.

Pros: Delicious flavours and pretty bottles.

Cons: Made from imported apples.

Bulmers Ginger

Price: $6.50 per 500ml bottle.

Alcohol Content: The ABV is 4% or 1.6 standard drinks in each 500ml bottle.

It's not quite ginger beer, it's ginger cider. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I know I like it. True to its roots, Bulmers Ginger is amber in colour with a golden hue and a fresh ginger aroma, overlaying the distinct apple cider characters. The cider is sweet to taste and has a dry crisp finish. Basically, it tastes like ginger beer.

Pros: Not too sweet, great when you want something different.

Cons: Not great if you're after that crisp, cider taste.

Dr Pilkington's Miracle Cider

Price: $6.99 per 500ml bottle

Alcohol Content: The ABV is 5% or 2 standard drinks in each 500ml bottle.

The latest creation from MV Beer, Miracle Cider is everything a cider should be. It's crisp and refreshing and not as sweet as some other ciders on the market. "Made from 100% fresh apples under “doctor’s” orders, it is a deliciously dry and refreshing apple tonic with a refined acid balance allowing true apple flavour to shine through. With no plans set in stone for the future of the brand, snap up your cure before it’s gone…" Featuring a variety of quirky labels labels, there's nothing not to like about this cider.

Pros: Made from locally grown pink lady and granny smith apples in McLaren Vale.

Cons: We can't find one!

Please drink responsibly.
