With summer in full swing, there’s no better feeling than getting out and exploring our beautiful state. Whether it’s on the weekend, on your day off, or for those lucky enough to have extended their holidays, getting out of the house and into the sunshine is a total must. So if you’re anything like me and looking for something to do or somewhere to go this January, there’s no better place than McLaren Vale. With their much-loved SummerVines festival returning, there’s more to do than ever.

The countdown is already on for SummerVines, as it kicks off this week on January 16th. For eleven days, the festival is bringing world-class wine, fresh local produce, live music and more to one of South Australia’s favourite wine regions. With more than 15 individual events across cellar doors, vineyards, and restaurants, SummerVines is bringing everything from long lunches and tastings to sunset picnics and live music sessions.

Varney Wines

SummerVines 2026 will highlight the region’s diverse range of wines, like summery Fiano and Rosé to year-round classics like Grenache and Shiraz. These wines each tell the story of McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean-like climate, shaped by sun, sea, and coastal winds. When paired with fresh Fleurieu Peninsula produce, seasonal menus, and music, these wines highlight the region’s unique identity, and that’s what the festival continues to showcase year after year.

With the Santos Tour Down Under once again coinciding with SummerVines, visitors can enjoy a combination of world-class cycling alongside the festival. The Women’s Stage 1 race kicks off on January 17th, the RADL GRVL gravel cycling event takes place on January 23rd, and the Men’s Stage 4 race rolls through on January 24th, giving festival-goers the perfect mix of sport and indulgence.

Olivers Taranga

Grounded Cru

Highlights of the festival program include the SummerVines Sunset at Gemtree, Cin Cin Italia at Haselgrove, the Artisan Collective featuring Juxtaposed, By Fabiano, and L’Anima, the Taranga Terroir Tour at Oliver’s Taranga and the Ox Hardy Upper Tintara Vineyard Sunset Tour & Tasting. Other events like the Serafino Deck Days and the Varney + Friends Tasting offer intimate encounters with local winemakers, providing opportunities to learn more about McLaren Vale’s diverse varieties and innovative wine styles. More casual gatherings like Bob Marley & Friends Reggae Festival at Paxton Wines, SummerWheels with SA eBikes, Báhn Mì & Beats at Woodstock Wine, and Vibe & Vines at Grounded Cru make sure there’s something for everyone.
