Sunny Side Uploads are Bringing Live Streamed Gigs to Your Living Room

Adelaide creatives band together (apart) to bring Adelaide’s live music experience from the stage to your screen.

Sunny Side Uploads are excited to have launched a series of live streamed gigs by beloved Adelaide musicians – broadcast in high definition, direct from iconic venue The Jade to audiences at home.

The COVID-19 pandemic has delivered the music industry a colossal blow, with closed venues and cancelled shows crushing a thriving community. In light of this, the Sunny Side crew are fiercely determined to get musicians back onstage doing what they do best.

Having partnered with production company Repeater, performances are filmed and streamed in high definition with multiple camera angles, and sound is mixed by Sunny Side founder and audio producer Josh Trezise.

“We recreate the live music experience as faithfully as possible”, explains Sunny Side co-founder, Timothea Moylan. “We’re capturing the raw energy of a gig, so our audience feels like they’re standing right there – Coopers in hand and sweat flying off the stage,” she laughs.

Adelaide institution The Jade is the project’s headquarters, and so far this month, Sunny Side have already streamed live gigs by local talent including Timberwolf and Venice Queens. The next month will see Abbey Howlett and Alana Jagt coming up on the bill alongside indie powerhouse Seabass.

“We’re bringing our audience a diverse representation of our incredible music scene”, says Josh. “We’re lucky to be able to broadcast from a stage, thanks to The Jade’s owners being such legends.”

The Sunny Side team are closely monitoring current directions from SAPOL and SA Health, taking care to adhere to guidelines – from sanitising stage equipment and ensuring artists and crew are maintaining the required distance. “Our industry is resilient, and we’re determined to find a way for our community to continue. We’re been rigorous in ensuring we’re doing this safely,” Josh reiterates. “The project was born out of necessity for our vibrant music scene to keep entertaining.”

Since the project’s inception at the start of April, audiences have been streaming Sunny Side gigs live to phones, laptops and TV screens, discovering new artists and watching local favourites tear up the stage.

Viewers able to do so are encouraged to donate to support the artists and the project, with contributors entering the draw to win bottles of gin from distilleries Prohibition and Never Never, as well as prizes from other local businesses.

“It’s an opportunity to engage new and existing audiences”, explains Josh. “We hope people take a moment to enjoy a slice of Adelaide culture and support local hospitality while they are holed up at home.”

Sunny Side Uploads’ live streamed gig series continues this week with local legends Alana Jagt and Seabass.

Sets from Abbey Howlett, Naomi Keyte and more are slated for coming weeks. Past and upcoming performances can be viewed via Facebook and YouTube, while more information including the gig schedule, video links and information about donating can be found on the Sunny Side Uploads Facebook page.
