Superloop Adelaide 500 Makes Huge Announcement Ahead of 2020 Season

If you love the Superloop Adelaide 500, this news is huge.

Australia’s largest domestic ticketed motorsport event, the Superloop Adelaide 500, has once again secured the coveted season opener of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, with next year’s event locked-in over four days from February 20 to 23.

With so many changes to Adelaide’s other key events in recent weeks, including the axing of Adelaide Fashion Festival and the Victoria Park sprint component of year’s event Adelaide Motorsport Festival, today’s news should come as a relief to Adelaide 500 fans.

The Supercars series will converge on the Adelaide Street Circuit in the third week of February, a week earlier than this year’s event, for Race 1 and 2 of the 2020 season.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway, said the scheduling was a coup for fans and the $6.8 billion visitor economy, with approximately 10,000 spectators travelling from interstate for the race each year.

“The Superloop Adelaide 500 is a world-class motorsport event which has injected more than $600 million into the state’s economy since its inception, created more than 400 full-time jobs and regularly attracts crowds of more than 250,000 visitors a year,” said Minister Ridgway.

“Securing the season opener is a real coup for the state and reaffirms our reputation for delivering exceptional events.

“We look forward to attracting the attention of the country’s motorsport enthusiasts and, once again, stage an event which sees flow-on benefits for the city’s hotels, bars, restaurants and retailers.”

The 2019 event – which featured the much-anticipated return of the Ford Mustang – attracted an estimated 254,000 fans, with a sell-out crowd of approximately 90,000 people attending Sunday’s final race and after race concert headlined by American rock legends, Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said the series was looking forward to, once again, opening the season in Adelaide.

“As one of the country’s largest and most successful major events, the Superloop Adelaide 500 is one of the standouts of our racing season each year,” Mr Seamer said.

“The incredible range of entertainment on and off track as part of a month of festivities in Adelaide sets it apart as a great celebration for the City.”

A number of Grandstand ticketing options for the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500 are available now via the event’s 500 Club program, which enables current 500 Club members to secure Grandstand seats at 2019 pricing, as well as a host of other benefits.

General admission tickets and other grandstand ticketing options will go on sale later this year.

The full 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship calendar is expected to be announced in early July.

The 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500 will take place 20 February – 23 February, 2020.
