Support veterans and emergency services personnel at the SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTSD Walk and Concert today

The walk and concert is happening today, and it’s not too late to get involved.

The 2021 SmartBar Walk for A Veteran with PTSD is more than just a great way to show your support for our veterans and emergency services personnel who have put their best foot forward to help in times in need… it’s your chance to take part in a truly spectacular walk and then enjoy a sensational line up of Aussie artists in a celebratory concert.

The event is happening today, and it’s not too late to get involved.

SmartBar Walk for A Veteran with PTSD founder Chad McLaren says so spectacular is the 10km Mt Crawford Reserve walking circuit for the Saturday August 28 event, he doubts many participants will be able to stop at just one lap.

Whether you want to walk just 10km or aim to cover the total walk and do 40km, with a group, supporting a veteran or emergency services worker, or just because you love to get out in the great outdoors for fitness and fun…. The SmartBar Walk for A Veteran is open to everyone.

And so too is the concert to follow, with Aussie and local artists to everyone’s taste.

Headlining the concert are headliners from Queensland Hollow Coves supported by the best of SA bands with Germein Sisters, Horse Lords and The Timbers, plus the individual talents of local Adelaide musician Yorke Heath and Lucinda Grace from the Adelaide Hills.

That’s a great line-up for a concert only ticket price of $49 plus booking fee.

“The walk route really is something special…. Then the concert, with all that talent on stage, there is no better way to spend a Saturday,’’ McLaren says.

“As part of the 10km route, 1/3 of which is on the renowned Heysen Trail, the course takes you to 470m above sea level and there is a spectacular view over the valleys below.’’

Located in what is known as Bennett’s Reserve, at Chain of Ponds, facilities, including food trucks are located at the Start/Finish line of the walk route and there is provision for camping near that point for people looking to make a weekend of the event.

“We’re giving the over 400 registered walkers the option of completing one, two, three or four laps this year, while also adding a true relay element to the event with teams of four, with each walker completing one 10km lap… but I can see many people wanting to go up that hill again and again,’’ McLaren says.

“We will put on a spectacular concert to celebrate the walkers and allow everyone to spend time together supporting our veterans and emergency services personnel and their families.’’

Julian Speed, Chief Executive, ForestrySA commented “We are pleased to host the Walk for Veteran with PTSD event in Mount Crawford Forest this weekend.

“ForestrySA is an emergency service organisation and our multi-use forests are managed with community use, health and wellbeing in mind, so this event certainly fits the bill.”

Now in its 6th year, SmartBar Walk for A Veteran with PTSD aims to raise $120,000 in 2021 to reflect the strong growth of the cause, which last year raised $75,000.

The 2021 Walk for a Veteran with PTSD event is proudly sponsored by South Australia’s own SmartBar Australia.Other sponsors and partners include BMD, Spinifex Brewing Co, Forestry SA, Department of Premier and Cabinet,Adelaide Hills Council, Ghost Wines, AIG Security, Pick a local, Pick SA, and Noble Events and Touring.

Proceeds from the walk are again donated to organisations and services that support veteran and emergency services mental health programs. The chosen charities in 2021 will be the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation (APFF), and CFS Foundation SA, Hearts for Heroes and Trojan’s Trek.

Each event has provided great opportunity to walk alongside and hear from brave men and women of our Defence Forces and emergency services about the impact of those vital roles they have played in our community.

“The SmartBar Walk for A Veteran with PTSD continues to do a great job of connecting our veterans and their families impacted by mental health issues with others in the community to hear their stories and give them support,’’ McLaren says.

“It has been heartwarming to see this community come together over our five events so far and we look forward to growing the event even more on Saturday August 28.

You don’t have to be connected to the armed forces or emergency services – we invite everyone who wants to join in the day and / or the night in the stunning Adelaide Hills to get their favorite people together and register now.’’
