Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute is once again proud to present their annual Survival Day event in 2021.
This year due to COVID19 restrictions, the event will be held indoors to comply with safety and capacity guidelines. Tandanya is operating with a fully functional COVID safe plan and welcomes the opportunity to present Survival Day in an alternate mode this year as a ‘ticketed’ free indoor event.
Tandanya’s ‘Survival Day’ has grown in stature each year to become the ‘not to miss’ event in Adelaide that brings together the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and wider community, to remind us that we’re Still Surviving, Still Thriving.
‘Survival Day’ – January 26, is an important time when community gathers to celebrate the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The day serves to acknowledge and reinforce the present and the future of our cultures.
‘Survival Day’ embodies the reality that Indigenous cultures are strong, with much to be positive about, despite the negative effects of colonisation.
The ‘Survival Day’ event is a presentation of this to the wider community through exhibition, dance, music and cultural sharing.
Survival Day is a FREE, family friendly, non-political event offering cultural presentations, live entertainment, information, market stalls, great food, retail shopping and much more.
Tandanya NACI’s CEO Dennis Stokes says “The acknowledgment of Survival Day is paramount to our culture, to ensure our community is further strengthened and empowered by all we embrace and stand for.”
In 2021, ‘Survival Day’ will run from 1.00 – 7.00pm at Tandanya – 253 Grenfell St, Adelaide.
Attendees are required to book online to reserve a FREE ticket to assist with capacity restrictions and contact tracing. Bookings are now open through Try Booking and are available until capacity is reached.

The fun-filled day includes a live concert hosted by Natasha Wanganeen and 2020 SA Young Australian of the Year Zibeon Fielding, featuring a line-up of South Australia’s finest indigenous performers including the Nathan May Trio, Tilly Tjala Thomas, Glenn Skuthorpe, Nancy Bates and Katie Aspel, Rob Edwards Band, rappers Sonz of Serpent and the Tony Minniecon Band. Traditional and contemporary dance performances will feature ‘Yellaka: Old Wisdom, New Ways’, SA First Nations Dance Collective,
Dusty Feet Mob, and Talkinjeri dancers.
Tandanya Café will be open for food and drinks, with the Gallery Shop and the Kaurna and Tjibruke galleries also offering much to enjoy throughout the day.
