Your sushi dining experience is about to get super futuristic.
Sushi Train Welland Plaza is the first of SA’s Sushi Train stores to introduce sushi serving robots. The two robots come to your table to deliver your food with a big digital smile.
Store manager Kosuke Ueno said the new robots work with humans to deliver the sushi.
“The robots deliver food to the customer and they know which table to go to,” Kosuke said.
“People can still order from the iPad that we have at each booth, but the robot delivers the sushi.”
The robots came to the store on Thursday December 2, and are yet to be named.
The Welland store is the first Sushi Train store in SA to introduce the robots, while there are currently a few stores in Queensland that use this technology.
The robot is a KettyBot which functions for multi-table delivery. Multiple tables can be served in one run with accurate positioning and optimal path planning.
The KettyBot was founded on 2016 in Shenzhen, China. It uses laser and visual duel navigation to avoid and detect obstacles to ensure it is a safe robot.
The robot has multiple shelves, meaning it can carry as much sushi, dumplings and nigiri as you like.
At the moment, the robots do not collect dirty plates from the table, but Kosuke said they may introduce this function soon.
Not only is the robot the smartest in the room, but it’s also the best dressed too with a Sushi Train tie and a smart collar to go along.
Sushi Train stores already make the most of technology to create a unique dining experience With over 50 stores around the country, Sushi Train uses a rotational Sushi Bar System.
The sushi is made by skilled chefs who put the fresh sushi on a conveyor belt for customers to pick from as they sit along the sushi train bars. Customers are also encouraged to use the iPads that are provided at each booth.
The addition of robots is the stores is their next step into the future of dining.
