TAFE SA shines a spotlight Adelaide’s fashion talent

During the Adelaide Fashion Festival, the TAFE SA Fashion Program will be presenting not one – but three – parades to satisfy all fashion lovers on October 14 and 15.

The hottest ticket is the 2011 Fashion Graduate Parade on October 15 at 8pm which showcases the final year Advanced Diploma of Fashion Design and Technology students’ six‐piece graduation collection.

With collections ranging from daywear to bridal, leisurewear to wearable art, this parade is a culmination of three years of fashion design study for the class of 20 students.

On what people can expect from this year parade, Senior Fashion Lecturer Helen Jansson said: “The level of complex construction, colour and commerciality that will be shown at the 2011 Fashion Graduate Parade is a real step‐up in professionalism and design.”

After their graduation parade the class of 2011 will join the ranks of the TAFE SA Fashion Program’s elite alumni and launch their careers in the South Australian fashion industry.

For the first time TAFE SA presents the Alumni Parade and Cocktail Party on 14 October at 8pm which will shine a spotlight on their alumni, lecturing staff and costume students.

Arriving guests will be greeted by characters from the RMS Titanic and the Titanic‐inspired costumes created by the Diploma of Costume for Performance students will open the fashion parade.

TAFE SA has a strong history of producing great talent with graduates working for their own labels or leading fashion brands locally, nationally and internationally.

The designers ‐ Lucy Tucker of Sainte Lucie, Brenton Drechsler of Ruby Mars, Anna Williamson of Mai Loui, Cristina Tridente of couture+love+madness, Sanela Tettis of Red Pearl Couture and lecturing staff Scott Bowring, Merrin Cameron and Jill Culbertson ‐ will parade their collections in the gardens of Prince Alfred College.

To round out the Fashion Showcase, the Racewear and Millinery Parade on October 15 at 12noon, will present the talents of the second year fashion design and millinery students.

Fashion Educational Manager, Sean Parsonage said: “This year’s fashion showcase provides an exciting cross-section of what the TAFE SA Fashion Program offers and is an opportunity to see first‐hand the great work produced by our students, alumni and lecturing staff.”

The Fashion Showcase is a truly collaborative event and highlights the practical training at TAFE SA. The Hair and Beauty students and lecturers will be working backstage during the Adelaide Fashion Festival creating the hair and makeup seen on the catwalks.
