TAFE SA Students Have Festive Fashions All Wrapped Up

TAFE SA second year fashion design students will be selling their largest range of high summer clothes at the Gilles Street Market on Sunday 5 and 12 December.

Over the last six months, the students have designed and developed a range of garments under the guidance of their industry-experienced lecturers, which will be on sale.

Gilles Street Market goers’ needs are covered with fun and fashionable ranges, including Rooftop Picnic, Move With Me and Into The Wild.  With prices ranging from $15 – $50, there is a price point to fit any purse.

Hot off the racks will be the Rooftop Picnic flirty floral playsuits and cute summer dresses, whilst those who love tribal and animal print can channel this trend with a cute top.  With 90s grunge set to stick around this season, Move With Me incorporates denim detailing and voiles.

TAFE SA Fashion Lecturer, Helen Jansson said this is the largest collection the Fashion Program has produced using a practical design and production-based activity sold to the general public.  “The process of design through to sales gives second year students’ real world understanding of the fashion industry outside the walls of a study environment”, Ms Jansson said.

Fashion Design student, Paige Auciello commented that “the design process was exciting because there were many important aspects to consider for the garments to be sold commercially and was a great learning experience”.

“Seeing the garments finished after so much hard work has given the class a great sense of accomplishment,” remarked fellow student Talia Cornelius.

TAFE SA emerging fashion designer pieces can be purchased at the Gilles Street Market, 91 Gilles Street, on the grounds of the Gilles Street Primary School.
