He's one of the USA's best soul singers, and for the first time in far too long, John Legend is coming back to Australia.
When you combine one of the most prolific American composers of the last century, the frontman of one of Australia’s most iconic bands and an eclectic, rising pop chanteuse, the result is a truly magnificent night of music.
Adelaide called. Spin Off Festival answered. Yes, we’re well acquainted with big name artists and festivals passing us by (and no, we haven’t forgiven you quite yet) but with the weather surprisingly sunny and a slew of big names hitting the stage at the Wayville Showgrounds, Adelaide festival goers ready to get their taste of Splendour in the Grass were in good spirits.
Tickets are still available for Adelaide's Splendour in the Grass sideshow Spin Off Festival. Headlined by Kiwi songstress Kimbra and Internet sensation Lana Del Rey (pictured) and featuring Band of Skulls, Friends, Yacht Club DJs and Messrs, the small bill has grown considerably since it was announced earlier in May, bringing more Splendour acts, as well as local and international acts to Spin Off.
Overheard at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Tuesday night: “I love Kimbra. I loved her before she was popular.” True, Kimbra Johnston’s popularity has skyrocketed in the last 12 months (special thanks to Gotye for that one), but what is perhaps most refreshing about the 22 year old Kiwi singer and hipster darling is even with all the attention and accolades , she’s been nothing but herself, and it doesn’t look like she’ll be changing anytime soon. Tuesday night’s show, the first on her most recent national tour, couldn’t have summed it up better.
What a night it was for the 25th anniversary of Australian music’s night of nights – the ARIA Awards. Winners Gotye, Boy & Bear, Cut Copy, Guy Sebastian; performers Delta Goodrem, Art vs Science and Kimbra, and Hall of Fame inductees Kylie Minogue and The Wiggles truly dazzled. And they were just some of the highlights.
With less than a week until the Australian music industry gathers to rock Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park, on Sunday, 27 November for the 2011 ARIA Awards, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) have announced more performers and presenters.
