Co-creators Christine Johnston, Rosemary Myers and Shona Reppe, working with Windmill Theatre Co and Imaginate, Scotland have produced a terrific modern version of the Russian folk tale Baba Yaga. Rather than the classic frightening old witch, with a reputation for eating children, this Baba Yaga is an eccentric, rather than scary, older woman.
Students Hassan and Chloe are put on detention—one has been suspected of stealing their teacher’s money, and it’s up to them to decide what the truth is. It’s a simple concept that speaks volumes, and opens up a world of potential in this new production from Windmill Theatre Company. Moving away from the pure fantasy of some of their previous fare, Amphibian is an inventive production that motors along on the energy and vitality of its cast.
The Bean Counter is literally what the title states; the audience witnesses (and participates in) the comedic events within an international jelly bean counting competition, with our slightly odd ‘official bean counter’.
