As a committed (some would say obsessive) dog owner, it genuinely hurts my heart to have to say goodbye to my pups in the morning when I leave for work. There’s a look of betrayal, confusion, and borderline distress in their little brown eyes as I put on my boots and grab my bag. I’m sure many of you (and your furry friends) feel the same way. Friday, June 21, aka the best day of the year, is fast approaching. Yep, international Take Your Dog To Work Day is almost upon us. Established in 1999, Take Your Dog To Work Day celebrates canine companionship and highlights the importance of finding a home for dogs in need.
As well as enjoying the company of pups in the office, Take Your Dog To Work Day is a fabulous opportunity to raise money for animal shelters. As the RSPCA points out, a donation of just $9 could provide a week’s worth of antibiotics to a dog recovering from surgery. You can find out more and register with the RSPCA here.
Whilst Take You Dog To Work Day is pretty much a dream come true for dog-lovers, it’s important to check with your employer before rocking up with your pup (no matter how cute its face might be). You should also ensure that your workplace is safe for a pup, and that your dog is healthy and well-trained. The RSPCA has provided some fantastic information on making sure you, your furry friend, and your fellow employees remain safe, well, and happy on this marvellous day.
