Talent Within Exhibition Returns To Women’s And Children’s Hospital For 2017

The Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation are bringing back their Talent Within exhibition for 2017 with a special exhibition by Tim Boord that you don’t want to miss.

The Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation‘s Arts in Health program is always something we love to get behind. Whether it’s delivering a range of artistic activities throughout their hospital, providing colouring books and pencils in waiting areas, or exhibiting some truly magnificent pieces of artwork, they never fail to impress us with their dedication and creativity. So when we heard they were preparing to launch their newest exhibitions this month, we needed to know more.

The first exhibition will be a photo exhibition from Tim Boord titled About Face and will be installed on Wednesday, 19 July. It is an exploration of portrait photography through the lens of classic film cameras. In About Face, Tim turned his camera on friends and colleagues to take close-up portraits – so you may recognise a few familiar faces from around the Hospital. Having been a Media and Corporate Communication Adviser with the Women’s and Children’s Health Network since 2011, he began taking photographs seriously in 1988.

During this project Tim worked with film, giving him the opportunity to use classics, such as a Hasselblad ‘V’ series and Mamiya RB67 cameras (for all you camera aficionados out there), which meant working manually and methodically. As many film camera experts may know, film provides its own limitations – the number of shots was limited to one or two rolls with between 10 and 12 frames per roll, and there is not the opportunity to check the images in real time as with digital. No iPhone’s here.

In 2016, he was the winner of the SALA Festival‘s Talent Within Exhibition Award. This award provides both financial support for creating artworks, framing, and exhibition guidance to have a solo exhibition as part of the South Australia Living Artist Festival (SALA) the following year. About Face is the outcome of this award.

The 2017 Talent Within exhibition is the second exhibition that will be held by the WCH Foundation, and celebrates the ‘talent within’ the Women’s and Children’s Health Network. It will feature 23 artists each showing off their skills in photography and visual art. This exhibition offers an opportunity to find a new connection, and a different side to the people that volunteer and work in the Women’s and Children’s Health Network. This exhibition will be installed on Wednesday, 26 July in Gallery A.

Both exhibitions are part of the SALA Festival which runs for the month of August and they will stay up in the hospital until mid-September. So whether you’re in there visiting a relative, or just heading past on your way to something else, why not pop in and check out some amazing art from Adelaide’s health volunteers and workers.
