The Easter Long weekend is fast approaching, with many families planning to travel down the Limestone Coast to Kingston, Robe and beyond.
If you’re heading down that way, take the opportunity to explore the hidden regional gems and town secrets and city-goers often miss.
One such gem is Lacepede Seafood – a Kingston-based Fish & Chip Shop. Established in 1988, the Seafood joint has a stellar reputation amongst locals. Lacepede Seafood sells some of SA’s finest seafood, including Coffin Bay Oysters and Spencer Gulf Prawns. But what they’re known for are their Southern Rock Lobsters.

Tom and Kristen Wilks bought the business in September last year, and have incorporated their own spin to the place – starting with their signature Lobster Pâtè.
“My husband tom is a crayfisherman, and he and his whole family have always been really good cooks,” said Kristen.
“Tom’s mother tasted a lobster dip many many moons ago in a restaurant, loved it, and through a lot of trial and error, created her own recipe.
“The recipe was handed down to Tom, and he’s been making it for over 25 years. We now make it here at Lacepede Seafood, and it has quickly become our signature dish. We get heaps of compliments!”
Kristen continued to share that Tom’s mother, Margie, used to make her lobster pâtè for the previous owners of Lacepede Seafood 15-20 years ago. So in the way, the delicious dip has come full circle.

Kristen and Tom are also innovating the ways lobster can be served in other ways too.
“We really want to champion the Southern Rock Lobster in the Australian market and get people to eat it in different ways,” said Kristen.
“This Easter, we’re thinking of also making a lobster pie! It would be small chunks of lobster in a short cut pastry, with pistachio crumb.”
Lacepede Seafood will be open throughout Easter:

- Easter Saturday (16 April): 10:00am – 4:00pm
