The cutest bear hunt imaginable is taking place this Long Weekend to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

Carriage of Occasion has decided to treat all of us with a fantastical day where you will be on a teddy bear scavenger hunt whilst travelling through Strathalbyn on a horse drawn cart.

On the public holiday Monday, Carriage of Occasion our inviting us to go over, around and through Strathalbyn looking for bears, teddy bears that is. Paddington might even join in for a game of hide and seek on this royal holiday.

The Bear Hunt will give kids the opportunity to scavenge for lost teddy bears to mark off a checklist assigned to them at the beginning of the day. While the little ones are focussed on finding the bears, their parents will be able sit back and enjoy the ride.

Your bear hunt will start at the tourist information centre in Strathalbyn, conveniently located near a playground, public toilets and parking spaces. After you have had the chance to pat and feed the horses, you will be able to climb aboard into the carriage.

The kids will also be given a lovely pair of binoculars so that they look and feel like the real deal.

And if the weather permits, there will be a teddy bear picnic to rejoice in the bliss that will be an unforgettable afternoon. There are only 3 time slots are available, one of which is already sold out.

“The idea of our bear hunts came about when the state was in lockdown for COVID-19 during 2020, and community members started placing bears for kids to see while driving around. After a couple of different formats, we settled on the offering that we currently have, available on selected days during state school holidays. Initially we went for a bit longer, and covered more of the town, but as we went on, we realised the smaller kids really had trouble maintaining focus for the full hour, and started to get quite restless,” Carriage of Occasion.

The tour will take you through the most picturesque parts of the town, and your hosts will be happy to chat to you about the tour, as well as talking about the horses. You will do a 4 km loop, and will be out for about 40 minutes, but there is always time before and after to pat the horses and get photos.
