Teenage Joans to headline Skate Daze 2 – the official opening of Capella Drive Reserve

In celebration of the second stage of the Capella Drive Reserve redevelopment, Skate Daze 2 will see a full day of music, skating and food trucks.

It’s time to live out all of your 1999 Tony Hawk Pro Skater dreams as the next stage of the $3M Capella Drive Reserve redevelopment is unveiled tomorrow.

To celebrate the completion of the second stage of the project, which sees a new playground, pump track, public toilets, and Ninja Warrior fitness equipment added to the area, the City of Marion is holding ‘Skate Daze 2’, a full-day of live music, skating demonstrations, BMX demonstrations, creative workshops, live art installations and food trucks.

Award-winning Adelaide indie rock duo Teenage Joans are the headline act at tomorrow’s youth event Skate Daze 2 at Capella Drive Reserve in Hallett Cove.

The talented Tahlia Borg and Cahli Blakers have taken out multiple awards, winning South Australian Live Act of the Year at the 2019 National Live Music Awards and six awards at the 2021 South Australian Music Awards.

Besides Teenage Joans, the live music line-up at Skate Daze 2 includes Pity Lips, Luci, Satin Sun and Babyteeth.

Mayor of Maron Kris Hanna and Minister for Social Services and Federal Member for Kingston Amanda Rishworth MP will conduct the official opening of the redevelopment stage at 11.30am.

Two barbecue and picnic areas with additional seating, more shade and extended pathways have also been built, along with an upgrade of the old BMX track to a new jump park.

Stage 1 was officially opened in December last year with a state-of-the-art skate park, a three-on-three basketball court, a rock-climbing wall, new lighting, and an extended car park.

The entire $3.14 million project was funded with a $1.85 million contribution from the City of Marion and $1.29 million from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.

Marion Mayor Kris Hanna said the improved facilities and amenities had been embraced by the community with the reserve becoming a popular place for people of all ages, particularly during the holidays and on weekends.

The overall project design was led by Adelaide-based JPE Design Studio which engaged with the community and local students to develop a quality design that catered for a range of recreational experiences for all of the community to enjoy.

The skate park was designed and built by award-winning Australian skate park experts – CONVIC – to give skaters one of the best suburban skating experiences in the state.

The pump track and jump park were designed and constructed by Jason Cousins from Youth Services Australia who conducted design and build workshops with young people from the Marion Council.

Skate Daze 2 is happening on Saturday August 13th from 11am – 4pm.

Capella Drive Reserve is located at Capella Dr, Hallett Cove SA 5158
