Standout South Australian fine dining restaurant Temperance is set to reopen its doors this Valentine’s Day, with a new head chef taking charge.
Restaurant manager Mel Hamilton said, “Head Chef Anthony Cresp has been sharing the spotlight in the Temperance kitchen since the restaurant opened and is excited to move into the role of executive chef.
“Having been responsible for forging relationships with local growers, Anthony is keen to continue focusing dishes on regional and seasonal products with a more casual approach to dining with a shared offering.”
Temperance opened in 2023 as a European-inspired upscale dining venue. Mel and Anthony have been a part of the team since day one, bringing a ‘farm to table’ philosophy to this unique rural venue.
“Our fine dining restaurant Temperance, is named after the moderation movement that Renmark was built on in the late 1880’s. Rest assured, we are anything but measured in our offerings,” shared Mel.
“We began in September 2023 as a fine dining restaurant and have featured in the top restaurant lists for Gourmet Traveller, The Advertiser and now in the Delicious top 100.”
Born and raised in Renmark, Anthony left the small town to follow his dreams of becoming a chef. Working at locations like the Lady Daly, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, as head chef at the Lobethal Bierhaus, and then sous chef at Topiary under Kane Pollard, Anthony is now stepping up into the role of Executive Chef.
As Temperance reopened Anthony is turning the tables on the formal set menus of the past and encouraging guests to choose their own menu to share at the table.
“The restaurant is stepping away from being an ‘occasion venue’ to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, to a space you’ll want to keep coming back to with friends and family.
“Anthony’s connection to food is unpretentious which will be reflected in our service style of shared dishes. His connection to food, its provenance and its chemistry make him one to watch where nothing will be wasted as even the skins and seeds take on a standout role on the plate. Talk round the town is that his Carp Spring Rolls are going to be the most popular dish as he challenges opinions on the pest of the Riverland.”
Whether you’re a Riverland local or have been looking for an excuse to head that way for a day or two, as Temperance reopens, it’s sure to remain an impressive venue that highlights the fantastic produce and rising talents coming out of the region.
“The reason for people to visit is the care and detail taken in each dish that tells a story. We are a unique offering in a faraway place that is worth the journey.”
