Tenacious D cancel Australian tour following Trump joke at Sydney gig

Jack Black has cancelled his Australian Tenacious D tour, including an upcoming Adelaide date, following demands the pair be deported about an assassination joke about Donald Trump.

Jack Black has cancelled his Australian and New Zealand Tenacious D – The Spicy Meatball Tour, including an upcoming Adelaide date, following demands the pair be deported about an assassination joke about Donald Trump.

Jack posted on his Instagram account, around 9:30pm Adelaide time on Tuesday, with the statement:

“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.

After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Concert promoter Frontier Touring said in an email to ticket holders: “Frontier Touring regret to advise that the remaining dates of Tenacious D’s tour of Australia and New Zealand have been cancelled.

All purchased tickets will receive a full refund.”

It follows the Tenacious D Newcastle show on Tuesday being cancelled without notice, just hours before the show. Frontier Touring said on social media that it regretted “to advise that Tenacious D’s concert tonight at Newcastle Entertainment Centre has been postponed”.

“Ticket holders are asked to hold onto their tickets until further information is available”, the company said in a social media post. It said no further comment would be made.

Adelaide fans were due to see the band perform on Monday July 22nd at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Other tour dates for the Australian and New Zealand tour included Thursday 18 July at Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Saturday 20 July at Rod Laver Arena, Wednesday 24 July at TSB Arena in New Zealand and Friday 26 July at Spark Arena, also in New Zealand.
